UAE, France, India discuss strategy to boost economy
The meeting covered developments on the regional, international arenas and the importance of strengthening cooperation in facing global challenges, including energy and food security.
Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has held a tripartite meeting with Catherine Colonna, Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, and Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India.
The meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, touched on bilateral cooperation relations and strategic partnership and ways to further develop them to support the three countries’ efforts to achieve economic prosperity and sustainable development.
Sheikh Abdullah also reviewed with Colonna and Dr Jaishankar a number of issues of common interest, including climate change and ways to promote global efforts to combat it, especially with the UAE hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023.
“The three sides exchanged perspectives on the Indo-pacific region and explored the potential areas of trilateral cooperation including Maritime Security, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, Blue Economy, Regional Connectivity, Cooperation in Multilateral Fora, Energy and Food Security, Innovation and Startups, Supply Chain Resilience and Cultural and People-to-people Cooperation,” the Indian Ministry said.
The meeting also covered the developments on the regional and international arenas and the importance of strengthening international cooperation in facing global challenges, including energy and food security.
Sheikh Abdullah said that the UAE has distinguished relations and a fruitful strategic partnership with India and France, noting that the three countries have common visions and aspirations to achieve sustainable growth in their societies to achieve progress and prosperity for their peoples.
Dr Jaishankar and Colonna highlighted the significance of this tripartite meeting and its role in strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with the UAE at all levels.
The meeting was attended by Dr Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs and the UAE Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN.
On the other hand, the UAE delegation held high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, attended the ministerial-level meeting of the League of Arab States, and also spoke during a joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council and People’s Republic of China.
For his part, Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State, met with Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia. Additionally, Sheikh Shakhboot met with several ministers, including Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana; Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia; Robert Dussey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Togolese Abroad of Togo; Ambassador Molly Phee, US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs; and Ambassador Mike Hammer, US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.
Sheikh Shakhboot also met with Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, UN Assistant Secretary-general for Africa in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs — Department of Peace Operations.
Mariam Bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, alongside Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, assistant minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, met Ambassador Cindy Mccain, US Permanent Representative to the UN Agencies in Rome.
Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, attended a virtual side event organised by the Permanent Mission of the Argentine Republic to the United Nations and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on opportunities and challenges in international development cooperation for middle-income countries. Al Shamsi also attended the meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group on Muslims in Europe, which was organised by the Permanent Observer Mission of the OIC to the United Nations.
