DP World Women’s cycling challenge to be held on October 8

DUBAI: The DP World Women’s Cycling Challenge is back for its 3rd year. It’s the region’s only cycle race dedicated to women and will take place On October 8 on the Al Qudra cycling track inside the Al Marmoom Desert Conservati­on Reserve.

Held under the umbrella of Dubai Sports Council Women’s Sports Commitee, supported by RTA, Dubai Police and the UAE Cycling Federation as well as all the leading cycling clubs and teams, the DP World Women’s Cycling Challenge has grown each year.

The organizers are expecting an even bigger event this year with more women taking part from across the UAE and the region.

The participan­ts are from all walks of life and a cross section of the community, including riders of all levels of experience, from seasoned racers to enthusiast­ic recreation­al cyclists.

Teams include, cycling clubs, sports teams, government entities including Dubai Police, Dubai Ambulance, RTA and Dubai Municipali­ty corporate organizati­ons and education establishm­ents.

It is a hugely popular event and the day itself atracts a large crowd of enthusiast­ic supporters.

The challenge offers two distances; 40 KM and 70 KM and participan­ts can register either as individual­s or teams. It’s a fun as well as competitiv­e event with the routes taking riders through Al Marmoom Desert Conservati­on Reserve on the dedicated cycle track.

Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each race category and all participan­ts will receive finisher medals and special gits.

‘Women cycling is hugely popular in the UAE and growing as a sport globally. It’s an accessible recreation and past time for women of all levels of fitness and riding capability. As a competitiv­e sport, cycling is atracting more and more women, and in Dubai we have excellent facilities with easy access to superb cycle tracks, and this has encouraged more and more women to take up cycling competitiv­ely and socially. The DP World Women’s Cycling Challenge seeks to encourage women at every level of ability to join in and enjoy the experience. Our aim is to see women come and ride to compete, or cycle just for fun and enjoy a great morning in the beautiful Al Marmoom Desert Conservati­on Reserve,” Event Director Ruth Dickinson said.
