Rain lashes several areas of the country

ABU DHABI: A number of areas in the country, on Thursday, witnessed rainfall of varying intensity, as a result of the country being affected by an extension of a surface low pressure system from the east, accompanie­d with an extension of an upper air low pressure system, according to the National Centre of Meteorolog­y (NCM).

The NCM also indicated that light to medium rain began at 1:00 pm on Al Owaid area in Sharjah and Al Shuaib area in Al Ain, while it was heavy on Sheikh Khalifa Road towards Al Shuaib and a number of other areas at 6:00 am UAE local time.

As for mercury recordings, the lowest temperatur­e recorded in the country on Monday was 20.8°C in Rakna area in Al Ain city at 05:00 am, the NCM said.

As for mercury recordings, the lowest temperatur­e monitored in the country on Thursday was 19.1°C in Jebel Mabrah in Ras Al Khaimah at 06:00 am, the NCM said.

The Centre also appealed to road users to exercise caution and follow traffic instructio­ns in the area that may witness rainfall, and strong winds descending from cumulus clouds over some eastern areas, which may lead to the flying of solid objects with low horizontal visibility.

It is also necessary to stay away from the places of surface run-offs, the NCM added.

As for the weather forecast for the coming days, the NCM said that the weather on Friday would be fair in general and partly cloudy at times, with a chance of some rainy cumulus clouds formation eastward and southward by aternoon. Humid by night and Saturday morning with a probabilit­y of mistformat­ionoversom­ecoastalan­dinternala­reas.

Light to moderate southeaste­rly becoming northweste­rly winds, fresh to strong at times causing blowing dust and sand with clouds, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 45 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.

The weather is also expected to be fair in general and partly cloudy at times, with a chance of some cumulus clouds formation eastward by aternoon. Humid by night and Sunday morning with a chance of fog or mist formation over some coastal and internal areas. Light to moderate southeaste­rly becoming northweste­rly winds, freshening at times causing blowing dust during daytime, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 40 km/hr.

The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in Oman Sea.

The weather on Sunday and Monday is also expected to remain fair in general and partly cloudy at times, and clouds appear eastward might be cumulus by aternoon.

Humid by night and Monday morning with a chance of fog or mist formation over some coastal and internal areas. Light to moderate southeaste­rly to northeaste­rly winds, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 30 km/hr. The sea will be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea.
