NCM warns of fog formation in many areas

ABU DHABI: A number of areas in the country, on Monday, witnessed rainfall of different levels, while some inland and coastal parts were blanketed with fog formation as a result of the country being affected by an extension of a surface low pressure system, accompanie­d by an extension of an upper air low pressure system.

The National Centre of Meteorolog­y (NCM) explained that the fog had lasted for eight hours from 1:00 am until nearly 9:00 am on Al Faya Bridge, Al Saad-al Ajban Road, Al Wathba and other areas in Abu Dhabi city, on Madinat Zayed in Al Dhafra, on Minhad in Dubai and other areas in the country.

It also said that light rain began to fall on Al Hyer and Asharej areas, while it was heavy on Al Showaib and scatered parts in Al Ain, in addition to Dubai-al Ain Road. It was also heavy along Wadi Ghalila and Khor Khowaire in Ras Al Khaimah, on Al Aweer in Dubai and on other areas in the country, the NCM added.

The Centre also indicated that the lowest temperatur­es recorded in the country on Monday was 21.2°C in the Rakna area of Al Ain at 6:00 am.

The NCM also appealed to the motorists to exercise caution and abide by the traffic instructio­n, especially during rainfall and fog formation, which affect the horizontal visibility to keep the public safe.

In the meantime, the Abu Dhabi Police, on Monday, decreased the maximum speed limit to 80 km on 10 main roads in Abu Dhabi, as a precaution­ary measure to avoid fatal accidents that may happen due to the low horizontal visibility.

The NCM also said that the weather on Tuesday could be fair in general and partly cloudy at times, with some cumulus clouds that may tower over eastward by aternoon, according to the NCM. It also expected to be humid by night and

Wednesday morning over some western coastal and inland areas.

“Light to moderate southeaste­rly to northeaste­rly winds, freshening at times blowing dust during the daytime, with a speed of 10 – 20 reaching 30 kilometres/hour,” it said. While the waves would be slight in the Arabian Gulf and in the Oman Sea, the NCM added.

The weather on Wednesday and Thursday is expected to continue to be fair in general and partly cloudy at times. Some clouds may appear eastward by aternoon, the NCM said.

It is also expected to remain humid by night and Thursday morning over some coastal and inland areas with a chance of fog or mist formation. The winds will be light to moderate southeaste­rly becoming northweste­rly, freshening at times blowing dust during the daytime, with a speed of 15 – 25 reaching 35 kilometres/hour. The waves will be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and slight in the Oman Sea, the NCM added.
