Sporadic rain persistent across country

ABU DHABI: Rains of varying intensity continued to fall on separate areas across the country on Thursday.

Light to moderate rains fell on multiple areas including Al Foah, Umm Ghafa and Al Towayya in Al Ain, Hzeiwa in Umm Al Quwain, Data and Wadi Tuwa in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah Internatio­nal Airport, Al Jurf, Al Hamidiya, Al Nuaimiya and Al Manama in Ajman and Kalba, Al Rafiah , Al Rahmaniya and Al Batayeh in Sharjah.

The lowest temperatur­e of 5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 5am on Thursday, while 7.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jebel Mebrah, 8.7 dehrees Celsius in Al Jazeera Border Guard and 9.5 degrees Celsius in Bida Da’fas.

The National Centre of Meteorolog­y (NCM) called on motorists to take caution while driving under low horizontal visibility caused by rainfall and dust-stirring winds and to stay away from large puddles and flooded valleys.

Friday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy in general with low clouds appearing over some coastal and northern areas and offshore and a chance of light rains, while the temperatur­e is likely to rise gradually, it said, noting that the weather will be humid at night and on Saturday morning in some inland areas.

Light to moderate northweste­rly to northeaste­rly winds will blow, turning to active at times offshore at 15 to 25 and up to 40 kilometres/ hour, while the sea will have regular to moderate waves in the Arabian Gulf and moderate waves in the Sea of Oman, it added.

Saturday’s weather will be partly cloudy in general and cloudy at times offshore and in the islands with a chance of light rains, while it will be humid at night and on Sunday morning in some inland areas, the NCM said.

Light to moderate northweste­rly to northeaste­rly winds will blow, turning to active at times at 15 to 25 and up to 40 km/h, while the sea will have regular to moderate waves in the

Arabian Gulf but will be rough in the morning and will have moderate to regular waves in the Sea of Oman, it added.

The weather on Sunday and Monday is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy at times on some northern and eastern areas and islands to the west with a chance of rain, it said.

Light to moderate northeaste­rly to southeaste­rly winds will blow, turning to active at times, while the sea will have regular to moderate waves but may turn to rough at times in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
