Sharjah aim to maintain top spot in Pro League

DUBAI: The Adnoc Pro League returns to action with Matchweek 13, taking place on Sunday, and Monday, as each club looks to gain some ground between keeping pace with the league’s leading teams or moving up the standings.

Sunday’s actions get underway, with four matches are scheduled for the day, two of which will take place at 5:15pm, as Itihad Kalba will host Al Jazira with the former seeking to return to the winning ways, while the later will search for pulling off the victory to boost their hopes in the title race.

Atthesamet­ime,alwaslwill­welcomekho­rfakkan at Zabeel Stadium. Al Wasl will look for returning to the right track, while the later will seek to pull off their second win in a row.

Sunday’s other two games will be held at 8pm, as Sharjah will host Al Nasr in a tough encounter.

Sharjah will be searching for ending the first round in the first spot, while Al Nasr, who made several deals during the winter transfer window, will look to escape from the relegation zone.

At the same time, Al Bataeh will host Al Ain at Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi Stadium.

Al Bataeh will look to end the first round of the Adnoc Pro League in the best possible way, while title holders Al Ain will search only for securing the victory to put their campaign back on the track.

The games continue on Monday, with two matches taking place at 5:15.

Al Dhafra will host Dibba as the two clubs will seeking their second win in the league. At the same time, Ajman will host Shabab Al Ahli at Rashid Bin Saeed Stadium with the two clubs seeking to heap pressure on leaders Sharjah. Matchweek 13 concludes with Bani Yas welcoming Al Wahda.

Meanwhile, the UAE Pro League has announced the winners of ‘ The Best’ Adnoc Pro League monthly awards for November and December ater they had won the highest number of votes during the 24-hour voting stage, which saw a large turnout from fans casting their votes on the official UAE Pro League website and mobile app.

Al Jazira forward Ali Mabkhout picked up the Best Player award ater overcoming Sharjah’s forward Ousmane Camara, and Shabab Al Ahli’s striker Igor Jesus, as well as Al Ain’s midfielder Bandar Al Ahbabi, and Al Wasl’s striker Fabio Lima

Ajman’s Ali Al Hosani won the Best Goalkeeper award ater edging Shabab Al Ahli’s Hassan Hamza and Al Jazira’s Ali Khaseif.

Ajman’s manager Goran Tufegdzic clinched the Best Coach award ater finishing above Sharjah’s head coach Aurelian Cosmin Olaroiu and Shabab Al Ahli coach Jose Leonardo Jardim.

The UAE Pro League has also continued the ‘School Tour’ initiative in the stadiums of profession­al clubs.

The initiative, which is organized by the UAEPL in cooperatio­n with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company , comes in accordance with the goals of the 2020-2030 strategic plan, through which the league endeavors to build up bridges of communicat­ion between society and profession­al clubs.

The second tour was made at Khorfakkan’s Saqr Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Stadium, where the students of Al-bayan School toured the stadium that hosts profession­al competitio­ns matches, including the Adnoc Pro League and ADIB Cup, and learned about its various facilities.

They also looked at the pitch and knew how the stadium is managed during matchdays or other periods throughout the year.

During their tour, the students enjoyed the recreation­al activities provided by the UAEPL at the “Fan Zone” to add more fun to the initiative.

The UAEPL has previously held a tour at Al Dhafra’s Hamdan Bin Zayed Stadium for the students of Madinat Zayed schools (Madinat Zayed Campus - Al Dhafra School - Al Falah Academy).
