Rain hits UAE, temperatur­e dips to as low as 3.3° Celsius

ABU DHABI: Heavy rains with hail lashed separate areas of the country on Wednesday morning, as a result of the country being affected by a state of atmospheri­c instabilit­y due to a surface depression passing from the southwest, with an upper depression extending from the north, accompanie­d by an air current from the west, and a cold and moist air mass in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

Moderate to heavy rains with hail fell in several areas, including Razeen, Al Ajban and Musaffah in Abu Dhabi, Al Bida and separate areas in Al Ain, on the Nahil-sweihan road, on the city of Riyadh, on Al-wathba, on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street towards Abu Al-abyad in Al Dhafra region, on Jumeirah in Dubai, Wadi Yamah in Umm Al Quwain, Al Siuh, Maliha, Nizwa and Al Bataeh in Sharjah, Muzair’a in Ajman and other separate areas of the UAE.

The lowest temperatur­e recorded in the country, 3.3°C, was recorded on Wednesday morning in Jebel Jais in RAK at 3:15 am, and 6.1°C was recorded in Jabal Mabrah in RAK, and 10.5°Cwas recorded in Jabal Al Haben in RAK, while Hafeet Mountain recorded 10.7°C.

The National Centre of Meteorolog­y (NCM) expected that the state of atmospheri­c instabilit­y will continue, and Thursday’s weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with some cumulus clouds accompanie­d by rains of different intensity, lightning and thunder at times in separate areas, with a noticeable drop in temperatur­e.

The Dubai Police has urged road users to exercise caution, adhere to safety rules, and reduce driving speeds during rainy and unstable weather conditions.

They are encouraged to take time before their journey to review weather forecasts and reports through accredited media and competent authoritie­s in the country to avoid dangerous traffic accidents.

The Sharjah Police have announced their readiness to handle the unstable weather conditions in Sharjah, as reported by the National Centre of Meteorolog­y. Measures have been taken, including dispatchin­g traffic patrols and coordinati­ng with partners to ensure traffic safety.

He urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and check the tyres, brakes, windshield wipers, and lights before the trip.

Maj. Gen. Al Mazroui also urged motorists to keep a sufficient, safe distance between vehicles, fasten seat belts, pay atention to the road and refrain from taking pictures or using handheld phones when driving.

The director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police also appealed to the public to reduce speed and drive with caution, remain vigilant to ensure the safety of all road users, and turn on low-beam headlights when visibility is reduced.

“Motorists are also advised to follow weather forecasts via official channels and be ready to comply with instructio­ns issued by relevant authoritie­s,” Maj. Gen. Al Mazroui concluded.

Major General Ali Abdullah Bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-chief of RAK Police and chief of the local Emergency and Crisis Management Team, affirmed that all concerned authoritie­s and the team were notified to deploy throughout the emirate to provide all the required facilities for road users and areas near the valleys.

Al Nuaimi noted that the weather will witness instabilit­y, and the amount of clouds will increase, interspers­ed with some thundersto­rms, accompanie­d by rains of varying intensity, which will lead to the flow of valleys.

He also said that the winds will be strong and the sea will be very turbulent.

Al Nuaimi warned community members against going to the sea during this time in order to preserve their lives and safety.

He also warned road-users to be careful and beware of slips that occur to vehicles during the rains, stressing not to go to rugged places and those witnessing the flow of valleys, in order to preserve public safety.

Al Nuaimi also appealed to drivers to follow the instructio­ns issued by all authoritie­s in the country, and stressed the need to check weather conditions through various media to avoid serious traffic accidents.

He affirmed that the police, in cooperatio­n with all concerned authoritie­s, will deal with reports received from the operations room in RAK Police, wishing safety to everyone.
