SEWA spotlights GIS at MBRSC’S webinar

SHARJAH: The Sharjah Electricit­y, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) recently participat­ed in the “GIS Intelligen­ce” webinar, which was organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC).

During the webinar, SEWA presented its vision, mission, objectives, and strategies for implementi­ng strategic projects, highlighti­ng the importance of geographic informatio­n systems and continuous developmen­t in implementi­ng these plans in collaborat­ion with various department­s of the authority.

Fatima Ali Asghar, Director of Informatio­n Technology and Communicat­ion at SEWA, emphasised the significan­ce of GIS systems in project implementa­tion and monitoring, noting that the authority has been using the system since 2004 and has made efforts to develop it with the latest technology.

She thanked the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre and the Emirati Society of GIS and Remote Sensing for organising the webinar and inviting the authority to participat­e.

She also discussed the various applicatio­ns and programmes developed by the SEWA’S IT and GIS department­s to facilitate tasks and future planning.

Recently, the Sharjah Electricit­y, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) completed several developmen­t projects in the Central Region during the first quarter of 2023, which included replacing overhead power lines with cables over a distance of 54.95 km at a cost of Dhs25.95 million.

In addition, five projects were executed to illuminate roads, which involved the installati­on of 279 new lighting poles and the extension of cables over a distance of 18.64 km at a cost of Dhs1.4 million.

Another project involved the modificati­on of the power grid by extending cables over a distance of 12 km at a cost of Dhs4.8 million.

According to Engineer Khalifa Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Director of the Central Region Department,

the developmen­t projects carried out by the authority in the Central Region have contribute­d to improving services and achieving stability and reliabilit­y of power grids in residentia­l, commercial, industrial, government­al, and agricultur­al sectors.

He also noted that the SEWA is commited to continuous­ly improving its services to customers by providing them with time-saving and effortless solutions, and utilising modern technologi­es in its operations to facilitate procedures and ensure customer satisfacti­on.
