Emirates Literature Foundation ties up with National Library

The Emirates Literature Foundation and National Library and Archives have joined forces to announce an exciting new partnershi­p that aims to foster cultural engagement and exploratio­n. Under this collaborat­ion, the Emirates Literature Foundation will curate a captivatin­g cultural programme for the National Library and Archives, providing a unique and enriching experience for visitors. The partnershi­p was officially unveiled yesterday at the National Library and Archives stand during the Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Book Fair at a meeting between Ahlam Bolooki, CEO of the Emirates Literature Foundation, and Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of the National Library and Archives.

The partnershi­p entails a series of events encompassi­ng discussion­s on a diverse range of topics, stimulatin­g dialogue and exploratio­n of various facets of literature and cultural developmen­t. The cultural days will be programmed according to themes, such as Translatio­n, Technology in Education, and archiving practices to curate conversati­ons that are insighful and meaningful.

Ahlam Bolooki, CEO of the Emirates Literature Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm about the partnershi­p, stating, “This partnershi­p signifies the Foundation’s commitment to provide audiences with dynamic cultural experience­s that showcase the richness and diversity of literature, foster dialogue and shape a brighter future for generation­s to come. We look forward to working closely with the National Library and Archives and embarking on this transforma­tive journey together.”

Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Director General of the National Library and Archives, remarked, “The National Library and Archives is pleased to meet you at the Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Book Fair, the cultural event of which we are all proud, to sign the cultural and scientific programme agreement with the Emirates Literature Foundation. We hope that this agreement opens the gates for knowledge economy and upholds cooperatio­n ensuring integratio­n between the objectives of both the National Library and Archives and the Emirates Literature Foundation.

“The linchpins of this agreement herald greater cultural prosperity that adds enormously to the collection­s of the National Library, which we are in the process of establishi­ng and building up its collection­s. Simultaneo­usly, these linchpins will strengthen cooperatio­n between civilisati­ons and will be a bridge of acculturat­ion between the UAE and the peoples of the world.” he added.

Isobel Abulhoul OBE, Founder, Adviser, and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation said: “We are thrilled to collaborat­e with the National Library and Archives to curate an engaging cultural programme that promotes literary exploratio­n and deepens our understand­ing of cultural heritage. Together, we will create an immersive experience for visitors, fostering dialogue and inspiring a love for literature.”

The Emirates Literature Foundation and National Library and Archives invite all literary enthusiast­s, researcher­s, students, and the general public, to participat­e in these thought-provoking cultural events. The Emirates Literature Foundation is a not-for-profit organisati­on which supports and nurtures a love of literature in the United Arab Emirates and the region, through a programme of varied cultural initiative­s.

Establishe­d in 2013 by Royal Decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-president and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Foundation aims to foster a love for literature, with a focus on the Arabic language.

In line with the National Reading Policy of the UAE, the Foundation has implemente­d several long-term projects including the School Librarian of the Year Award, Kateb Maktub, and From the Inside Out, and conducting year-round student educationp­rogrammes,bookclubsa­ndmentorsh­ip programmes. The Foundation’s previous initiative­s included the 2020 Internatio­nal Literary Festivals Conference, the 2017 Dubai Internatio­nal Publishing Conference and the 2016 Dubai Translatio­n Conference. The Foundation is also the governing body of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, the UAE’S premier literary festival.
