ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal commuted the ruling of the Court of First Instance, obliging a man to pay a company Dhs10,000 in compensation for damages it incurred, to Dhs5,000.

The company filed a lawsuit demanding that the man pay it Dhs50,000 in compensation for the damages incurred, and oblige him to pay the fees and expenses of the lawsuit, because he entered the company’s headquarters, with two persons, against the will of the persons concerned and tried to steal a car from the place, and fled before the police arrive.

The company clarified that the incident was considered by the criminal court that convicted the appellee and fined him Dhs1,000, according to a final verdict.

Abu Dhabi Court for Family and Civil and Administrative Cases (First Instance) obligated the appellee to pay the company Dhs10,000 in compensation and obligated him to pay fees and expenses.

The appellee appealed the verdict affirming that the vehicle he was trying to take belonged to the company he worked for, which was sent to the complaining company for checking to purchase, and that he was at the company’s headquarters at the invitation of the owner’s son to receive the vehicle after he expressed his unwillingness to buy it.

The court indicated that the criminal verdict convicted the appellee and he was fined Dhs1,000, and considered that the company did not deserve compensation for moral damage, but for material damage only.

Accordingly, the court amended the amount of compensation to Dhs5,000 and obligated the appellee and the complaining company to pay equally the fees and expenses of the appeal.
