Sultan Bin Ahmed, Sheikha Bodour grace event at AUS
The two institutions agreed to collaborate on faculty and student exchange programmes, enabling further research and mobility options for graduate and undergraduate students
Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), and in the presence of Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between UOS and AUS to establish a robust framework for cooperation and facilitate joint initiatives between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed at AUS by Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UOS, and Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of the American University of Sharjah.
The two institutions agreed to collaborate on faculty and student exchange programmes, enabling further research and mobility options for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as joint academic endeavour, including supporting collaborative supervision of graduate students, conducting joint research activities and establishing dual academic degrees and specialised short-term programmes.
Based on the agreement, AUS and UOS will encouragecollaborativeresearchendeavour,grant applications and joint efforts in e-learning, consultancy, curriculum development and professional training. They will also organise joint workshops, conferences and seminars to foster academic discourse and facilitate knowledge exchange on a global scale. Placing resource sharing and institutional development as an objective, the two institutions will also facilitate the exchange of academic material, institutional data and strategic benchmarking to enhance the quality and abundance of resources for both parties.
A steering commitee will be established to plan and oversee the delivery of the Mou’s deliverables, and a joint foundation will be formed to support the funding of any joint scholarly activities between the two institutions.
This strategic partnership underscores the unwavering commitment of both universities to advancingacademicexcellence,fosteringresearch innovation, and promoting cultural understanding within the United Arab Emirates and beyond.
His Highness, the President of the University of Sharjah, received a souvenir from Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi and participated in group photos to commemorate the occasion.
Earlier, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), opened two new exhibitions, titled “Consciousness in Flux. Faig Ahmed” and “Hard Edges. Khalid Al Banna” at the Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah, a non-profit creative initiative by (Shurooq) that supports the region’s emerging and established artists. Both exhibitions will be running until 1st August 2024.
The opening ceremony was atended by the CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Ahmed Al Qaseer, apart from notable dignitaries from the art and culture sector of the UAE. In addition, representatives of the in-kind supporter Air Arabia for the exhibition on Faig Ahmed were present.
Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi toured the two exhibitions, “Consciousness in Flux” by Azerbaijani artist Faig Ahmed, who is renowned for his conceptual hand-woven artworks that utilise traditional carpets as well as the exhibition “Hard Edges” by Emirati artist Khalid Al Banna, the artist’s first institutional show in the UAE.
Recently, in the presence of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Entrepreneurship centre(sheraa),thousandsofcuriouschangemakers joined a galaxy of pioneers, founders, leaders and visionaries from around the world at the 7th annual Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF 2024), which opened with high-calibre keynotes and insights from extraordinary individuals who are shaping the future of the business and entrepreneurship ecosystem of the UAE and beyond.
Themed ‘Our Shared Canvas’, the two-day event took place at the iconic Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP), and hosted expert-led masterclasses, pitch competitions, workshops, talks, and other events designed to foster collaboration and empower entrepreneurs in the region.
The opening ceremony was atended by Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation; Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, UAE Minister of Youth; Najla Al Midfa, CEO of Sheraa, and Mohammed Al Abbar, founder of EMAAR Properties, in addition to public and private sector representatives, business leaders, venture capitalists, university students, artists, academia, and members of the community.
