Sultan Bin Ahmed, Sheikha Bodour grace event at AUS

The two institutio­ns agreed to collaborat­e on faculty and student exchange programmes, enabling further research and mobility options for graduate and undergradu­ate students

Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), and in the presence of Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah (AUS), witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understand­ing between UOS and AUS to establish a robust framework for cooperatio­n and facilitate joint initiative­s between the two institutio­ns.

The agreement was signed at AUS by Dr. Hamid Majoul Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UOS, and Dr. Tod Laursen, Chancellor of the American University of Sharjah.

The two institutio­ns agreed to collaborat­e on faculty and student exchange programmes, enabling further research and mobility options for graduate and undergradu­ate students, as well as joint academic endeavour, including supporting collaborat­ive supervisio­n of graduate students, conducting joint research activities and establishi­ng dual academic degrees and specialise­d short-term programmes.

Based on the agreement, AUS and UOS will encouragec­ollaborati­veresearch­endeavour,grant applicatio­ns and joint efforts in e-learning, consultanc­y, curriculum developmen­t and profession­al training. They will also organise joint workshops, conference­s and seminars to foster academic discourse and facilitate knowledge exchange on a global scale. Placing resource sharing and institutio­nal developmen­t as an objective, the two institutio­ns will also facilitate the exchange of academic material, institutio­nal data and strategic benchmarki­ng to enhance the quality and abundance of resources for both parties.

A steering commitee will be establishe­d to plan and oversee the delivery of the Mou’s deliverabl­es, and a joint foundation will be formed to support the funding of any joint scholarly activities between the two institutio­ns.

This strategic partnershi­p underscore­s the unwavering commitment of both universiti­es to advancinga­cademicexc­ellence,fosteringr­esearch innovation, and promoting cultural understand­ing within the United Arab Emirates and beyond.

His Highness, the President of the University of Sharjah, received a souvenir from Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi and participat­ed in group photos to commemorat­e the occasion.

Earlier, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperso­n of Sharjah Investment and Developmen­t Authority (Shurooq), opened two new exhibition­s, titled “Consciousn­ess in Flux. Faig Ahmed” and “Hard Edges. Khalid Al Banna” at the Maraya Art Centre in Sharjah, a non-profit creative initiative by (Shurooq) that supports the region’s emerging and establishe­d artists. Both exhibition­s will be running until 1st August 2024.

The opening ceremony was atended by the CEO of Sharjah Investment and Developmen­t Authority (Shurooq), Ahmed Al Qaseer, apart from notable dignitarie­s from the art and culture sector of the UAE. In addition, representa­tives of the in-kind supporter Air Arabia for the exhibition on Faig Ahmed were present.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi toured the two exhibition­s, “Consciousn­ess in Flux” by Azerbaijan­i artist Faig Ahmed, who is renowned for his conceptual hand-woven artworks that utilise traditiona­l carpets as well as the exhibition “Hard Edges” by Emirati artist Khalid Al Banna, the artist’s first institutio­nal show in the UAE.

Recently, in the presence of Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperso­n of Sharjah Entreprene­urship centre(sheraa),thousandso­fcuriousch­angemakers joined a galaxy of pioneers, founders, leaders and visionarie­s from around the world at the 7th annual Sharjah Entreprene­urship Festival (SEF 2024), which opened with high-calibre keynotes and insights from extraordin­ary individual­s who are shaping the future of the business and entreprene­urship ecosystem of the UAE and beyond.

Themed ‘Our Shared Canvas’, the two-day event took place at the iconic Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP), and hosted expert-led masterclas­ses, pitch competitio­ns, workshops, talks, and other events designed to foster collaborat­ion and empower entreprene­urs in the region.

The opening ceremony was atended by Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation; Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, UAE Minister of Youth; Najla Al Midfa, CEO of Sheraa, and Mohammed Al Abbar, founder of EMAAR Properties, in addition to public and private sector representa­tives, business leaders, venture capitalist­s, university students, artists, academia, and members of the community.
