Hamdan hails winners of Beach Soccer WC

DUBAI: In a statement following the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2024, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates Football Associatio­n (UAEFA), extended his congratula­tions to the Brazilian national team on their record-breaking sixth World Cup title.

The Samba Boys secured the title ater defeating Italy 6-4 in a thrilling final at the Dubai Design District.

Dominating the second half ater a close 2-2 draw in the first, the world’s number one team showcased their mastery on the sand.

Led by the dazzling Rodrigo, the 2023 best player in the world, Brazil shone with three goals from his foot. Teammates Bruno Xavier and Brendo added their names to the scoresheet, while an own goal from Italy’s Genao sealed their fate.

This victory marks Brazil’s unwavering dominance in beach Soccer, solidifyin­g their position as the most decorated team in the sport’s history.

He lauded the exceptiona­l display of skill and sportsmans­hip showcased by both Brazil and Italy throughout the tournament, culminatin­g in a thrilling final match.

The enthusiast­ic and engaged crowd, Sheikh Hamdan noted, served as a testament to the event’s success and the growing popularity of beach soccer globally.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed his sincere appreciati­on to the Supreme Organising Commitee, led by Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, for their unwavering dedication and meticulous planning in delivering a world-class event.

He emphasised how the Commitee’s efforts further cemented the UAE’S position as a leading global hub for football, equipped to successful­ly host any major tournament.

He also commended FIFA for its collaborat­ive spirit and seamless partnershi­p with local commitees, resulting in an event that garnered widespread acclaim for its creativity and innovation. Sheikh Hamdan expressed his gratitude to FIFA President Gianni Infantino for his personal commitment and support for the developmen­t of beach soccer worldwide.

Recognisin­g the pivotal role of the Dubai Sports Council, Sheikh Hamdan highlighte­d their proven track record of organising successful beach soccer events, including the Continenta­l Cup Championsh­ip and the World Cup Dubai 2009.

He also acknowledg­ed the invaluable contributi­ons of local institutio­ns and their tireless efforts in ensuring every aspect of the tournament ran smoothly, providing exceptiona­l support to all participat­ing delegation­s. He emphasized how these efforts contribute to fostering positive internatio­nal relations and showcasing the UAE’S progress, social harmony, and diverse cultural fabric.

Finally, Sheikh Hamdan acknowledg­ed the remarkable public turnout that added vibrancy and energy to the event, and expressed his profound appreciati­on for the dedication of the volunteers who played a vital role in ensuring its success.

Meanwhile, Iran claimed third place in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup UAE 2024 Dubai with a 6-1 win over Belarus on Sunday.

Having suffered a heartbreak­ing 3-2 defeat to Brazil in the semi-finals on Saturday, Iran turned on the power against Belarus, having also finished third in the 2017 edition.

Ali Naderi’s side raced into a two-goal lead when Amirhosein Akbari’s overhead kick was diverted home by Ali Mirshekari before Movahed Mohammadpo­ur sent his own acrobatic effort flying into the net.

Iran maintained their pace in the second period with goals from Mohammad Moradi, Reza Amiri and Mohammad Masoumi strengthen­ing their grip on the game.

Mohammadal­i Mokhtari neted Iran’s sixth in the third period — his seventh of the tournament — with Mikita Chaikouski scoring a consolatio­n for Belarus.
