Sharjah Airport warns travellers, Abu Dhabi shuts parks, beaches

ABU DHABI: Many parts of the UAE received heavy to moderate rainfall on Friday evening.

According to the National Center of Meteorolog­y (NCM) Yas Island, Al Shawamekh and Bani Yas region of Abu Dhabi received moderate rainfall in the evening. Rain is expected on Saturday in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Other emirates of the UAE will continue to have partly cloudy weather, the NCM’S statement said. The UAE Ministry of Interior said that police, rescue officials, paramedics and civil defence are fully prepared to deal with any emergencie­s.

Earlier, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisat­ion issued a circular to the private sector companies across the UAE to allow employees to work from home on the exceptiona­l weather conditions.

Sharjah Internatio­nal Airport also clarified that the country is expected to be affected by strong weather instabilit­y starting from Friday evening, until noon of Sunday.

The Sharjah Airport called on travellers to come to the airport three hours before their flight time, and to check with the airline companies in the event of any flight delays.

The weather fluctuatio­n condition will gradually decrease and remain within the Eastern regions zone starting from Sunday evening and night. Different areas of the country will be affected by the weather condition, according to the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA’S) statement.

Initsstate­ment,theministr­yofhumanre­sources said, “In light of the exceptiona­l weather conditions in the UAE and ater coordinati­ng with relevant authoritie­s, we call on private sector companies to take caution and all necessary occupation­al safety measures to maintain the safety of its workers during periods of weather fluctuatio­ns.” It added, “We urge private sector companies to apply remote work for those whose nature of work allows, as well as comply with the directives issued by the relevant local authoritie­s in each emirate regarding the exceptiona­l weather conditions and their impact on business.”

The authoritie­s said that some UAE schools will close and shit to remote learning due to adverse weather conditions and that the decision will be taken by the emergency and crisis management teams in each of the affected emirates.

The Abu Dhabi Municipali­ty decided to close all parks and beaches in the city temporaril­y because of the rain to preserve safety of the visitors.

On its social media account, the Abu Dhabi Municipali­ty said, “Due to the expected unstable weather conditions and fluctuatio­ns, and to preserve the safety of the community, the Abu Dhabi City Municipali­ty announces the closure of all Abu Dhabi parks and beaches, starting from Friday, until the weather conditions end and stabilise.”
