DUBAI: Dubai Court of Misdemeanours convicted a gang of an Arab and three Africans and jailed one of them in presence and the others in absentia for three months, to be followed by deportation from the country ater serving their sentences, and fined them Dhs22,000 ater they were charged with seizing the same amount from an Asian national whom they defrauded through an advertisement on immigration to Canada on the “Facebook”.

The details date back to March 2022 when an Asian national filed a report complaining that he had been defrauded and Dhs22,000 had been seized from him ater he was deceived through an advertisement to immigrate to Canada.

He added that he had seen the advertisement on Facebook about an opportunity to immigrate to Canada, so he contacted the owner of the ad to inquire about the details.

A person reportedly assured him that the ad was true and that he worked for an office which provides services for immigration and visas to Canada for some fees.

The victim added that he provided the person with all the data and documents and transferred Dhs22,000 through several bank accounts inside the country, but ater receiving the money they delayed and did not send him the visa. He added that upon inquiring about them he knew that they were a gang defrauding those wishing to immigrate to Canada. The police investigations found out that they did not have any company to follow up on immigration procedures and that they defrauded the victim and seized Dhs22,000 from him, which he transferred to bank accounts. The police arrested one of the suspects who confessed to conniving with others to defraud the victim.
