6 jailed for impersonat­ing cops

DUBAI: Dubai Criminal Court jailed a gang of a GCC national and five Asians for three years, to be followed by deportatio­n from the country ater serving their sentences. The court also fined them jointly Dhs1,422,000 ater they were charged with impersonat­ing the police, detaining the owner of a general trading company and others, assaulting them, and stealing Dhs1,700,000.

The court referred the civil lawsuit to the competent court.

The details of the case date back to August 2022, when the owner of a trading company filed a report alerting that he was assaulted, detained, and Dhs1,700,000 were stolen from his company.

According to the victim’s statement, a person in Gulf clothes and two others who impersonat­ed Dubai Police investigat­ors entered the company where one of them took a military card out of his pocket and quickly hid it. Ater that, three others arrived at the company’s headquarte­rs.

The victim added that the first suspect and the others assaulted him, where one of them tied him up and assaulted his colleague, then they stole Dhs500,000 from the company safe, in addition to stealing the camera recording storage unit.

The second victim reported that when one of the company’s employees arrived at the place with Dhs1,200,000 in his possession, the suspects assaulted him, tied him up, and seized the money he had, then all of them fled the place.

A policeman reported that an investigat­ion team identified the suspects and arrested them in possession of Dhs281,000.

Four of them confessed in interrogat­ions that the first and second asked them to participat­e in the robbery of a trading company in the Naif area. Instantly ater the crime was carried out, each of them received Dhs50,000.

The other two confessed that they planned the crime and that they stole Dhs700,000 from the company, adding that the money seized in their possession was part of the money stolen.

Separately, two Asians have been sentenced to one year in prison, while a third received the same penalty in absentia, to be followed by deportatio­n for holding a countryman in their house and stealing two mobile phones and a wallet that were in his possession. They have been also fined Dhs2,500 collective­ly. The Court of First Instance in Dubai issued this judgment, which has been upheld by the Court of Appeal.

In April of last year, an Asian man reported a kidnapping incident involving his friend.
