EX-ISI chief Hameed’s brother held in graft case
ISLAMABAD: Former Inter-services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed’s elder brother Sardar Najaf Hameed was arrested by the Anti-corruption Establishment (ACE) Rawalpindi on Monday on corruption charges.
Sardar Najaf had got pre-arrest bail from a Rawalpindi court.
He was to appear before it on Monday, but got late and the court cancelled his bail.
Ater that, the Anti-corruption Establishment arrested him from the courtroom.
Ater his detention, the Anti-corruption Establishment let for Chakwal, the home district of Sardar Najaf, for further investigations into the land scandal in which he has been arraigned.
He would be presented before a court for his physical remand.
Sardar Najaf was a junior revenue official [Patwari] in Punjab.
Later, he got a promotion and became tehsildar. He always served in Rawalpindi but was transferred to Chakwal at the last leg of his government service.
While Faiz Hameed enjoyed immense power as the ISI chief, Sardar Najaf continued to serve in a junior position in the revenue department.
Sardar Najaf was oten accused of different shady land deals.
For a long time Faiz Hameed has not spoken a word publicly although he is often mentioned in different matters relating to politics particularly involving the Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI).
He was very close to the PTI founder chairman when the later was the prime minister and it was widely speculated that Imran Khan wanted to make Faiz Hameed the chief of the army staff.
Faiz Hameed previously served as head of the ISI (Counter Intelligence Wing). Later he served as Director-general of Inter-services Intelligence (DG-ISI) from June 2019 to October 6, 2021.
He was the 24th Director-general of ISI. In September 2021, he visited Kabul just a month ater the Afghan Taliban took control of the country and discussed the changes ater the US withdrawal.
