2 sent to jail for six months in theft case

DUBAI: The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced two Asians to six months in jail to be followed by deportatio­n ater being convicted of stealing 192 mobile phones worth Dhs300,000 from a store selling mobile phones in the Naif area.

The case dated back to last January when the owner of a store for selling mobile phones was surprised by a police patrol inside his store on the day of the incident and was told by a policeman that his store had been robbed.

The policeman also told him that a team of detectives arrested two suspects with a large number of mobile phones in their possession.

The store owner stated that he discovered that 192 iphones worth Dhs300,000 had been stolen and that the external lock on the door of his store had been broken.

A policeman asked him to go to the police station for the case procedures to be completed. There, the seized mobile phones were shown to him and he confirmed that they were taken from his store.

The defendants admitted that the seized mobile phones in their possession had been stolen from the store subject of the case and that they planned to rob the stores in Naif area.

They added that they kept an open eye on the place and waited until ater midnight when pedestrian traffic was at a minimum before they broke the external lock of the store and robbed it.

They then fled the place before they were caught within minutes of their crime, they added.

Separately, Dubai Criminal Court jailed an Asian national for 6 months on charges of attempting to blackmail a compatriot and his wife and threatenin­g to publish indecent videos and audio materials of the wife, if they did not pay him 3 million of their home currency (equivalent to Dhs36,000).

The court ordered his deportatio­n from the country ater serving his jail sentence and also ruled to delete the videos and audio materials in question wherever they are found on the informatio­n network or any informatio­n technology means.
