Modi vows to take Kerala’s tourism to new heights

TRIVANDRUM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised Kerala that if his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes back to power ater the Aprilmay national elections, it will take the state’s tourism industry to a new level.

“Kerala tourism has a great potential. We are commited to connecting global tourists with our heritage,” he said, addressing an election rally here on Monday.

“We resolve to make our heritage world-class. BJP will ensure the overall developmen­t of big tourist destinatio­ns in Kerala. We will establish new centres of eco-tourism.”

He highlighte­d major promises in the BJP manifesto, titled Modi’s Guarantee for the elections, with a road map on realising a developed country status by 2047.

It also promises ‘one nation, one election’, a common electoral roll and a uniform civil code for all religious and ethnic communitie­s.

Modi promised bullet trains in the North, South, and East, taking the semi-highspeed Vande Bharat to all corners of India and preparing to host the Olympics in 2036.

“Yesterday in Delhi, BJP released its manifesto. BJP’S manifesto means Modi’s guarantee. Under Modi’s guarantee, India will become the centre of world-class infrastruc­ture,” he said.

“Under Modi’s guarantee, India will make a memorable achievemen­t like Gaganyaan (crewed orbit spacecrat) in the field of space.

“Under Modi’s guarantee, farmers will continue to get the money.” Nearly one billion people will vote in the world’s biggest elections in seven spaces between April 19 and June 1.

Modi is making a push in the southern state, and the BJP is likely to make litle gains in neighbouri­ng Karnataka state.

“India will ascend to the world’s third-largest economy within the next five years,” he said.

“Under Modi’s leadership, India will witness the developmen­t of world-class infrastruc­ture and achieve significan­t milestones such as the (space) mission.” Modi arrived in Kerala Sunday night and began his rally in Palakkad on Monday morning. In the next three days, he will also address election rallies in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

“We have decided to provide free medical treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to senior citizens over 70,” he said.

“Also, around 200 million women associated with the self-help groups will be provided training in IT, healthcare, tourism and retail business.”

Turning to the leading opposition figure, Rahul Gandhi, who is seeking re-election from Wayanad in Kerala, he said, “A big leader of Congress has found it difficult to save the respect of his family seat in Utar Pradesh” and escaped to Kerala.
