Textile store salesman gropes client

- BY HAMZA M. SENGENDO

DUBAI: A salesman who groped a female client inside his textile store has been sent to spend three months in the dock after which he will be deported.

The Asian man, 22, irst appeared at the Dubai Criminal Court on Mar.19 for having groped the French housewife as she was examining the textiles on display in the Naif area store at around on Feb.15.

He made use of a time when she was alone with him, prosecutors explained. He denied the charge. His lawyer later argued that he did not intend to grope her and that he touched her by mistake.

The lawyer contended the woman entered and ordered for an item. He climbed onto a chair to get the item from the shelf.

The chair was broken and unstable. He slipped and struggled to regain balance.

In the course of events, he fell down and his hand came into contact with her back without his intention to grope her.

However, the court’s jury overlooked the arguments and convicted the salesman. On the record, the woman complained that she entered the shop to purchase some textiles. She examined ladies garments then told him she would return soon. She was astonished to see him seizing her left arm.

He then walked behind her and grabbed her forcibly. She shouted telling him to stay away from her and not touch her. She burst into tears, walked out of the store and contacted the police.

A police captain said the woman complained to him that the man clung to her, seized her arm with his hand and groped her with the other. The captain took the salesman a side to question him.

He confessed and acknowledged what he did was “wrong.” He apologised and vowed never to harass a woman again. The captain and his colleagues detained him.
