AL AIN: Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), several family-focused activities and workshops were organised at Al Ain Palace Museum on Thursday and Friday to celebrate World Heritage Day.

Organised under the theme Our Heritage for Future Generations, visitors enjoyed workshops, activities and popular food stalls and authentic Arabic gahwa in the museum courtyard, along with live performances of traditional folk dances.

Celebrated annually on April 18, World Heritage Day unites the international community in celebration of monuments and cultural sites around the world. In 1982, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) established the special day, which was approved by the General Assembly of Unesco in 1983, with the aim of enhancing awareness of the importance of the cultural heritage of humanity, and increasing its efforts to protect and conserve human heritage.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi conserves and promotes the heritage and culture of Abu Dhabi emirate and leverages them in the development of a world-class, sustainable destination of distinction that enriches the lives of visitors and residents alike.

The Department manages the emirate’s tourism sector and markets the destination internationally through a wide range of activities aimed at attracting visitors and investment.
