The document was necessitated by the changes in the global military and political environment and the nature of military action, as well as by modern-day development trends of the Belarusian state. The doctrine is based on the analysis of today’s military and political situation in the world, including in Europe, its development trends in the mid-term perspective, and the evidence provided by the research in the field of defense. GENETIC CODE ...................................................... p. 20 An in-depth research in forensics and medicine have been launched by geneticists of Belarus and Russia in cooperation with specialists from investigating committees as part of the Union State program DNA Identification for 2016-2020. The Vavilov Institute of General Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences has already been helping forensic experts in solving crimes, working on the development of the «genographic map». Researchers of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences have focused their efforts on studying genetic mechanisms that cause socially significant diseases. The application of genographic and genome technologies will be the key to safety of the Union State citizens, improved quality of life as well as life expectancy, and an efficient anti- terrorism measure. The contest was titled #PowerofWord and was held under the aegis of the Union State. The article points out that an educator plays a significant role in developing the single cultural and humanitarian space, promoting patriotism, cultural and moral values. SOVIET-ERA LESSON ...................................................................... p. 50 The robust economic growth in the Soviet Union in the 1930s-1950s helped the country to come closer to the developed countries of the West. Researchers called it the Soviet economic miracle. The achievements of that period were underpinned, first and foremost, by the comradery of the Soviet people, which was based on outstanding teamwork and common moral values and goals. The experience of that period is relevant for the contemporary period, as the former Soviet republics, including Belarus, are now trying to overcome the economic lag. Nikolai BUZIN. It analyzes the reasons and possible consequences of today's migration flows into European states. The author suggests addressing geopolitical challenges by managing migration waves. WHY WEHRMACHT WAS NOT STOPPED IN BELARUS ..................... p. 68 The article provides little-known facts about the partisan movement in the USSR and Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, analyzes partisans’ contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany. The author speculates: with prewar partisan movement in action and the implementation of full-fledged sabotage attacks on the supply lines from the Baltic states to Carpathians, the German troops could have been stopped in Belarus in 1941, not near Moscow. VARNENCHIK, THE SON OF SOFIA OF GOLSHANY ........................ p. 76 The article is dedicated to one of the most remarkable politicians of the European Middle Ages, King of Poland and Hungary Vladislav Jagiello. The king who had a Belarusian mother was famous for leading a crusade against the Turks in the mid-15th century. The author gives an account of little-known facts from the king’s life, provides the details of his personal participation in the battles on the Bulgarian land. The publication reviews a hypothesis suggested by some historians alleging that Vladislav Jagiello did not die during the Battle of Varna, but escaped and passed away many years after on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Vladimir KALMYKOV. OVERCOMING SPIRITUAL DISCOMFORT ............................. p. 80 Spiritual discomfort is defined in the article as anxiety, disappointment, doubt, and confusion. The author analyzes reasons causing disorientation and suggests overcoming it by studying the basics of philosophy. The author believes that the overall spiritual comfort is unattainable and unacceptable, because philosophy is an open system where certain things are clarified, but a lot remains a mystery. Natalia MIKHAILOVA. SOCIOCULTURAL POTENTIAL OF MATHEMATICS ................ p. 86 Maintaining a high level of math knowledge is essential at various stages of social development. The author of the article examines the philosophy of this science and its role in the general education space. Using evidence, she assumes that mathematical ideas are relevant for the general culture and hence have an esthetic appeal. Irina KONOVALOVA. The rapid development of media technologies necessitates the creation and socialization of a public policy brand. THE FUTURE LIES WITH INNOVATORS ................................. p. 96 The article describes the stages of the evolvement of the national innovation system, priority development areas of the country’s high-technology sector. The article also speculates on the meaning of technological phases. The author emphasizes that it is important for Belarus to join the list of countries that have been successfully implementing the base innovations of technological phase VI as a springboard for reaching technological phase VII. Building on the international experience, the author advises to make a more active use of innovations in the media system of Belarus.
