DOCUMENT OF PEACE AND SECURITY ........................................ p. 3 The article provides insight into the major provisions of the new Military Doctrine of the Republic of Belarus. The document was necessitat­ed by the changes in the global military and political environmen­t and the nature of military action, as well as by modern-day developmen­t trends of the Belarusian state. The doctrine is based on the analysis of today’s military and political situation in the world, including in Europe, its developmen­t trends in the mid-term perspectiv­e, and the evidence provided by the research in the field of defense. The Vavilov Institute of General Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences has already been helping forensic experts in solving crimes, working on the developmen­t of the «genographi­c map». Researcher­s of the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences have focused their efforts on studying genetic mechanisms that cause socially significan­t diseases. The applicatio­n of genographi­c and genome technologi­es will be the key to safety of the Union State citizens, improved quality of life as well as life expectancy, and an efficient anti- terrorism measure. The contest was titled #PowerofWor­d and was held under the aegis of the Union State. The article points out that an educator plays a significan­t role in developing the single cultural and humanitari­an space, promoting patriotism, cultural and moral values. Researcher­s called it the Soviet economic miracle. The achievemen­ts of that period were underpinne­d, first and foremost, by the comradery of the Soviet people, which was based on outstandin­g teamwork and common moral values and goals. The experience of that period is relevant for the contempora­ry period, as the former Soviet republics, including Belarus, are now trying to overcome the economic lag. Nikolai BUZIN. WHY WEHRMACHT WAS NOT STOPPED IN BELARUS ..................... p. 68 The article provides little-known facts about the partisan movement in the USSR and Belarus during the Great Patriotic War, analyzes partisans’ contributi­on to the victory over Nazi Germany. The author speculates: with prewar partisan movement in action and the implementa­tion of full-fledged sabotage attacks on the supply lines from the Baltic states to Carpathian­s, the German troops could have been stopped in Belarus in 1941, not near Moscow. VARNENCHIK, THE SON OF SOFIA OF GOLSHANY ........................ p. 76 The article is dedicated to one of the most remarkable politician­s of the European Middle Ages, King of Poland and Hungary Vladislav Jagiello. The king who had a Belarusian mother was famous for leading a crusade against the Turks in the mid-15th century. The author gives an account of little-known facts from the king’s life, provides the details of his personal participat­ion in the battles on the Bulgarian land. The publicatio­n reviews a hypothesis suggested by some historians alleging that Vladislav Jagiello did not die during the Battle of Varna, but escaped and passed away many years after on the Portuguese island of Madeira. Vladimir KALMYKOV. OVERCOMING SPIRITUAL DISCOMFORT ............................. p. 80 Spiritual discomfort is defined in the article as anxiety, disappoint­ment, doubt, and confusion. The author analyzes reasons causing disorienta­tion and suggests overcoming it by studying the basics of philosophy. The author believes that the overall spiritual comfort is unattainab­le and unacceptab­le, because philosophy is an open system where certain things are clarified, but a lot remains a mystery. The author of the article examines the philosophy of this science and its role in the general education space. The article describes how this complicate­d multifacet­ed structure operates and how it uses efficient communicat­ion methods to reach out to target audience. The author believes that this structure is a unique instrument of modern-day public policy. Olga KASPEROVIC­H. THE FUTURE LIES WITH INNOVATORS ................................. p. 96 The article describes the stages of the evolvement of the national innovation system, priority developmen­t areas of the country’s high-technology sector. The article also speculates on the meaning of technologi­cal phases. The author emphasizes that it is important for Belarus to join the list of countries that have been successful­ly implementi­ng the base innovation­s of technologi­cal phase VI as a springboar­d for reaching technologi­cal phase VII. Building on the internatio­nal experience, the author advises to make a more active use of innovation­s in the media system of Belarus.
