Sports awards this weekend

Botswana National Sports Commission ( BNSC) will reward some of the best athletes in the country. The Botswana Sports awards will be hosted virtually this weekend at the Btv Auditorium, with some of the country’s best athletes expected to win big at the awards. In some of the biggest categories, sensationa­l boxer Rajab Mohammed and the 400m sprinter,

Leungo Scotch find themselves in a skirmish for the prime sportsman of the year award. The duohad a busy 2019: the 24- year- old Scotch won a gold medal at the 2019 African Champions held at Morocco last year in the process recording hispersona­l best time of 45.27s.

He formed part of the 4X400m relay team thats craped for a gold medal at the Africa games held at Rabat, Morocco and summed up his year in style. He is the favorite to win this award. On the other hand, the Mafika Boxing Club’s Rajab will give Scotch a challenge in this category; Mohammed was a marvel to watch at the Africa Games last year as he grabbed a gold medal in the flyweight category in Morocco, becoming the African boxing title holder. Additional­ly, he was voted boxer of the tournament at AFBC Zone IV Boxing Championsh­ip after he made his mark by winning a gold medal at the championsh­ip.

On the ladies’ side, the Sportswoma­n of the Year will feature Keamogetse Kenosi ( Boxing), Marea Modutlwa ( Bowling) and Galefele Moroko ( Athletics 400m). National Team of the Year includes Women National Team ( Lawn Bowls) Ladies Volleyball Team ( Special Olympics) and Men 4 X 400m Relay ( Athletics) National Sport Associatio­n ( NSA) of the Year will feature the Botswana Chess Federation ( BCF), Botswana Cricket Associatio­n ( BCA) and the Botswana Boxing Associatio­n ( BOBA).
