Badminton receives project funding
Botswana Badminton Association( BBA) has been given a grant of US $ 5000 by the Badminton World Federation ( BWF) to aid successful implementation of the Shuttle Time project as well as to offer coaching clinics to local officials. The Shuttle Time project aims to introduce the badminton sport to development programs. As a BWF initiative, Shuttle Time is aimed at introducing new young players to badminton. According to BBA spokesperson, Modisaotsile Badubi, though they are yet to receive the funding, the grant has already been confirmed by BWF. He further said the world badminton governing body has already sent a consignment of equipment to roll out the Shuttle Time development project.“We have only received confirmation from BWF that we have been chosen as a worthy recipient of the grant after submitting a detailed plan of what we would do with the money. We expect the funds to be transferred to us soon. Also we
have received equipment from BWF in the form of rackets and shuttlecocks to help spread the shuttle time project and we have in the past held coaching clinics in various parts of the country to train coaches and distribute some of this equipment,” Badubi said. Just like all sporting codes, BBA has been greatly affected by Covid- 19 negatively. Badubi said Covid- 19 pandemic has
been a main obstacle in their progress of rolling out the Shuttle Time project across the country.“We have hoped to continue rolling out the shuttle time project across the country but due to the pandemic and its effects on school sports we have had to delay our plans and go back to the drawing board to figure out how we can roll it out again,” he said.
