Through the email, Katzen further explained: “To receive a letter cancelling the contract with no valid explanation or reason is inconsistent with the intended relationship between the parties and is unfounded. Umbro has a long history of supporting and developing African football and we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your letter further and the reasons therefore as we will protect our rights under the contract.” Katzen went on to advise Gunners that there are outstanding debts owed by the team to Umbro.
Responding to the letter from Umbro, Kebopetswe said: “I am pleased to hear from you. We are amenable to meeting with you and discuss the reasons for our decision. In fact, we have sought to meet Mr Mokhwela to discuss our misgivings but to no avail. No one is available to hear us and hence our attitude.” The Gunners Vice Chairperson further explained that ,“we would appreciate if you can make arrangement for the proposed meeting sooner and let me know when you think we can meet so that I may inform the club leadership.”
Reached for comment on the matter, Gunners chairman George Kerekang conceded that the two parties have some issue to iron out regarding the technical sponsorship. Nevertheless, Kerekang remained cagey and insisted that the matter was internal and it will be resolved behind closed doors.
