GOVT SHOULD RENT MORE HOUSES OWNED BY BDP MEMBERS

-

The other very important point to make with regard to the brouhaha over Dada’s house being used as a vaccination site is that the house would actually be safer than any government building. President Sir Ketumile Masire and ( future Sir?) Festus Mogae did a terrific job of using our diamond money to build infrastructure around Botswana. However, there was never much of a plan for maintaining such infrastructure, which is why the Sehithwa- Shakawe road has potholes that have become open- pit mines. At this point in time, the government is way too broke to maintain its infrastructure. In the circumstances, the government decided to rent a house that is obviously very well- maintained because Dada’s totem is being broke. When you get a vaccine shot at Dada’s house, you are 100 percent safe. On the other hand, it is more than likely that a ceiling might fall on you if you do that elsewhere. Yes, the BDP is being mean by super- concentrating wealth in the hands of a few, especially its members, but let us be realistic. In addition to Dada’s house, the government should rent the houses of other ruling party elites because those houses are also very well- maintained. Imagine being vaccinated at a house owned by an Umbrella for Democratic Change in Bontleng or Mmopane Block 1. With this party not having won a single election, its members have not yet had an opportunity to amass wealth and build houses that are safe enough to be used as vaccination centres. And let’s not forget that as of this writing, some of those houses are still under the hammer – which could well result in deputy sheriffs attaching such houses while they are being used as vaccination centres. That might involve attaching vaccine doses as well.
