Mophato Dance, Khoisan feature in FNB Africa Day concert

- BG REPORTER

Mophato Dance Theatre and KHOISAN are expected to represent Botswana at the inaugural FNB Africa Day virtual Celebrations. The Botswana groups join performers from three other countries from the region: Namibia, Eswatini and Lesotho.

Both groups are in a league of their own in their respective disciplines. And it will be thrilling to see how they use their craft to tell an authentic Botswana story. Having captured the hearts of many, this event will once more give them the opportunity to showcase what they are best known for. Other featured artists will comprise the likes of Top Cheri and PDK ( Namibia), Sands and Velemseni ( Eswatini), Ntate Stunna and Botala ba Linare ( Lesotho). Also joining them is Yaw Tog from Ghana. The event will be streamed on the FNB Botswana and FNB Namibia Facebook pages on Africa Day on May 25th. In an interview, the Communications and Public Relations Manager for FNBB, Boga Chillinde Masebu, explains that the event is a product of FNB African subsidiaries who are collaborating to host an Africa Day virtual live concert on the 25th of May 2021. The event, she says, is aimed at celebrating African unity, diversity, and talent. Led by FNB Namibia, the show brings artists from Botswana, Namibia, Eswatini and Lesotho right to the living rooms of thousands of people across the continent, she notes.

The Africa Day concert will be a mix of music, song and dance, showcasing performers from diverse backgrounds, collaborating to create Afroinspired musical magic. “This is to mark Africa Day, the annual commemoration of Africa’s independence, freedom, and liberation across the continent,” she explains. She also explains that this is FNB’s way of bringing the excitement and pride of the day and it is their way of giving back to their customers by providing safe and exhilarating entertainment. Sharing a brief about how the two groups made the cut, she explains that FNB Botswana shortlisted artists based on their ability to seamlessly tell Botswana’s African story by showcasing our culture and heritage and put them up for voting through a poll on FNBB Facebook page. “The public then voted KHOISAN and Mophato Dance Theatre to represent Botswana at this first of its kind concert,” she says. Giving a snippet about what will transpire on the day, she explains that the artists will collaborate and deliver a compelling performance not only to entertain, but to tell the Botswana story. “The performance will be recorded here at home, and their videos sent to Namibia for packaging,” she says. She further highlights that over the past months, their innovative digital platforms have enabled their customers to do their banking digitally at the comfort of their homes and that they are excited to extend this digitalisation to their events and connect with customers all over the country and across the continent.
