Litmus test for BFA CEO
Taylor’s appointment was both historic and surprising as she became the first BFA female CEO. Since arriving at Lekidi Taylor has been described by her admirers as ‘ exactly what the doctor ordered’ for the troubled local football governing mother body.
Recently, the Zebras camp turned into a laughing stock, as players walked out of the camp, citing various problems, amongst them, their welfare.
Botswana’s number 1 choice goalkeeper, Kabelo Dambe has led the protests, announcing that he will not don the national jersey until the welfare of players is attended to.
Speaking recently during a press conference, Taylor has conceded that the workload is daunting and further likened the troubled Association to climbing Mount Everest. However she vowed to flatten these huge obstacles, given the time.
Responding to a question posed by this publication regarding issues of players’ welfares, Taylor said, “I am tackling a huge workload in front of me. If I were to scale it, the stack would well be above me in terms of what needs to be done, but this does not mean I am not capable of dealing with it.”
Taylor said there has not been any formal communication from Township Rollers goal- minder, Dambe, on his much publicised snub of the national team.
“But this does not mean we will ignore the situation as we are aware that he is not only representing himself but the interest of other players,” said Taylor.
“We are engaging internally to find the best permanent, possible solution for the best interest of all parties and we have to find a solid resolution to rebuild the image of our national team.”
The BFA CEO also noted that she has picked up on Dambe’s grievances and stated that she understands the situation.
The association is planning a formal engagement with the players to iron out their differences and map a way forward.
In addition, BFA, Botswana National Sports Commission ( BNSC) and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development are set to engage and make deliberations on matters relating to national athletes’ welfare.
