Khumo’s Treats thrive

- BG REPORTER

In August 2018, Khumo Mooketsi of Khumo’s Treats started off with her passion that is now turning into a thriving labour of love project. At the time, she was employed at one of the financial institutions but soon the demand for her products saw her resigning to focus on her business. It has been three years since she started, and she has not looked back since. Khumo’s Treats specialises in sweet treats for special occasion such as Weddings, birthdays, graduations and more. She is loving every minute of her new path, and is looking forward to growing and expanding her business footprints. Khumo’s Treats specialises in an array of cakes and all things sweets. On average in a week, she makes around 10 cakes.

Even after all this time in business, she is still taking this as a learning experience. She is always eager to learn and experiment with new things, and wants to give her clients something that will make their day very memorable. “This is an interesting business because it is risky in the sense that a client first has to love the final product just by looking at it. And they also have to love the final product when they taste it,” she says, adding that she always has to ensure that the décor and the taste tick all the boxes for the clients. She also wants to give her clients value for money and is not one to cut corners.

“I always go all out when it comes to the final product,” she says.

She further says that when it comes to the décor of her sweet treats, everything has to be on point. “The décor of my cakes has to stand out. I am always ready to do better than I did yesterday,” says Mooketsi.

While the internet is a source of inspiration for many people, she explains that she also uses it as an inspiration but always adds her own personal touch. “A recipe might ask for milk, and I will substitute milk with yoghurt,” she says.

For now, she is operating from home but dreams about expanding and being bestowed with the title of the best baker. Seeing and hearing her beautiful journey, she is already on the path to that goal. Clients from other countries that include South Africa, Zimbabwe and the UK have been placing orders for their families and friends in Botswana.

“This is testament that I am doing something right,” says Khumo.

In the not- so- distant future, she would love to have operations not only in Botswana but outside as well.
