As the local fashion industry blossoms, Tamsil Designs has stolen the glam and glitz recently, with their unique designs and especially the check mini skirt.

This particular skirt caused a hype on social media recently as everyone rocked it their way, either with boots or sneakers to suit this freezing winter season. Many admit that they are fascinated by the creativity in the skirt and especially the fact that it doesn’t restrict one from still looking ravishing in winter, something that is mostly associated with summer season. The Director and owner of Tamsil Designs, Future Tamsil Marufo says this is a result of hard work and thinking outside the box. She admits that every winter season, people cogitate of sweaters, coats and all heavy and long stuff but her mini skirt has won the show in winter as most ladies love to accessorise the skirt with the knee high boot and a turtle neck to complete their look. She joined the fashion industry in 2017 after she found herself developing an interest in designing and making her own clothes. Like every girl, she was just inspired by good fashion looks that she would see on television and magazines. Surprisingly, she never dreamt of becoming a fashion guru as she was growing up, but started trying to make her clothes at 18 years and now at 25, she is one of the trusted fashion designers in the country. “I am a self- taught fashion designer who joined the industry just by making my own clothes and later on thought I should make my talent an official business as a lot of people were interested in my outfits,” she says.

She views the fashion industry as a very diverse industry, and therefore explains that Tamsil Designs, doesn’t necessarily have a target audience as their aim is to make everyone look outstanding in their outfit. “The fashion industry can have a very high level of pressure, but that is something I have tried to handle very well. I want to create a brand that is presentable and unique, ” she tells BG Style. Her most admired range of designs include, bridal couture, formal wear, casual wear, and she has always won the hearts of graduates too, especially with her lovely dresses. “I am also happy to make designs for expectant mothers for their pregnancy shoots or baby showers, as well as bridal showers because working on these particular designs is just fun, as I have to follow my clients’ themes,” she explains.

Marufo acknowledges that Botswana fashion industry is well advanced and of an international standard because now everyone can design anything they would order outside the country back then. She is for one, a fashion designer who likes challenges and ensuring that she remains as unique as possible in order to attract customers with the Tamsil touch, as her followers already view her. She also adds that her unique garments are meant to motivate young people, who look up to her and aspire to join the fashion industry while also creating employment.

The fashion designer of esteem further reiterates that it is her pricing and unique designs that sets her apart from other local fashion designers. “I love being creative and creating pieces that are recognizable and mostly affordable. I couldn’t think of anything that people haven’t seen before for winter, so I thought why not bring back the mini skirt but style it in a way that people can wear in winter, and here we are. I really appreciate the feedback that I get from my clients,” she says. She has thus received many orders on the skirt to a point that she has decided to produce many and display them at a shop, so that people can walk in and buy easily. “It has been a whole hectic two weeks after people noticed the skirt, and our social media inbox platforms are full of many messages with orders, and inquiries on this skirt. So we thought displaying our work in a shop setup would do us better,” shares Tamsil.
