Choppies pledges loyalty to local sports
Local retail giant, Choppies Botswana has committed to taking an active role in the future of sport in the country. The company follows and sponsors diverse sporting codes and does not intend to stop soon.
Speaking in an interview this week Choppies Botswana Marketing manager, Katlego Gaborone said they continue to support different sport codes and they are getting mileage for their efforts.
“Choppies receives both positive and negative mileage from sponsoring sports, but we remain very dedicated to the development of sport, and therefore we will continue to show our support in Botswana sports moving forward,” Gaborone told this publication.
She added that they assist many sporting codes, in different ways based on the needs that they are made aware of by the codes they sponsor.“Choppies assists many sporting codes from grassroots to international level. This is one way of Choppies giving back to our athletes for their hard work and efforts.
“We have been sponsoring Baboloki Thebe for three years with his needs, we have helped elucidate his concerns about accommodation, food, water, electricity and fuel over those years. This was our contribution towards him as he prepared for Tokyo 2020.”
Asked about their opinion on Baboloki Thebe not qualifying for the Olympics, Gaborone said Thebe has worked very hard over the past few years, “we are proud that he has made the relay team and we look forward to them bringing a medal home and making history.”
Choppies has a sponsorship deal with Botswana Football Association ( BFA). The 3- year sponsorship is valued at P3.7 million ( P3, 780, 000). The sponsorship
is towards the youth male national teams; namely under- 20, under- 17 and under- 15. The company, also offers some financial incentives to Botswana’s athletes who will fare well at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
