Mascom still on board

-

The global outbreak of the novel coronavirus brought football to a halt before any talks to renew the contract began. After being handed their autonomy, BFL now negotiates deals for itself and have engaged Mascom as one of the leading partners at the newly formed entity. However, the BFL find themselves in a precarious situation after Botswana Telecommunication Corporation terminated their agreement with their predecessor, the then Botswana Premier League, leaving the topflight football without a title sponsor. With two of the most followed football competitions in the country left without sponsors, this publication has been reliably informed that having sponsored the league before, Mascom were offered a chance to return. This proposal was rejected and rather, Mascom opted to renew marriage vows as sponsors of the lucrative Top 8 tournament. “We are in talks with them and the engagements have been very positive. They were also offered the first right of refusal to sponsor the league but they chose to stick to Top 8, which is a product they very much understand. Very soon we hope we will get feedback from them after our engagements,” the BFL CEO

Solomon Ramochotlhwane divulged. He further added that their wish as BFL is to wrap up all the deals they are currently working on as soon as possible. “Our fixtures should be inclusive of all other competitions we will hold as BFL; that is imperative for planning purposes to our teams,” he said. Meanwhile BG Sport, has further established that the prize monies for the competition will not change.

The tournament has significantly grown since its inception in 2012, from a staggering P1million prize money to a P1.4 million, Mascom Top 8 has been the most lucrative cup competition.
