- IRENE SHONE BG CORRESPODENT

Ginger Sparkles, a company that produces and packages freshly brewed Gemere drink, as well as Gemere dry ingredients, aspires to be the best leading supplier of Gemere products, both locally and internationally.

Founder of Ginger Sparkles, Kegomoditswe Ruele, who hails from Mogobane village, is of the view that no occasion in Africa is complete without the taste of ginger drink. Her personal love for ginger brew at family gatherings sparked the passion to learn how to brew Gemere perfectly, she says. She tells BG Style that she just had to ensure that the taste of her ginger is unique and delightful to offer that experience. “Gemere is a traditional natural drink strongly etched in our culture and therefore we believe by producing and packaging it, we are preserving our

Setswana culture,” clarifies Ruele. She further explains that, their first ever customers also inspired them to package their ginger products. “Our inspiration to take the packaging route was also drawn from our very first customers who believed so much in our products, as they recommended accessorized packaging for their event,” Ruele explains.

Their Products have been tested, she says and also shares that they are proud to have been given rights to use the Botswana pride mark, on their products.

She reiterates that, their drink has a unique taste which they strongly believe is the one thing that sets them apart from other producers locally. Gemere is a very smooth drink, and it can be taken with any meals, according to Ruele. “Some customers prefer to take it with their whiskeys/ Gin as well as in their cocktails/ mocktails,” she adds, saying that, it really goes with any occasion be it weddings, funerals, showers, Christmas or New Year’s eve functions and many other occasions. It may be served either chilled or frozen, she says.

Ginger Sparkles has been in existence since July 2019, and Ruele says they intend to expand and explore other products such as Gemere slushes and Gemere popsicles, to offer variety to their clients. They are currently operating from home, and depend on orders and deliveries. “We may be contacted on our office line or sent an email to gingersparkles19@ gmail. com or alternatively, be reached on our Instagram/ Facebook page Ginger Sparkles,” she shares. She is also happy to share that they have been receiving positive feedback, and the demand has also increased tremendously. They are now working on taking it to the shops for easier access and convenience.
