New corruption alert at BFA
Jonas Msomi Ikgopoleng, who is also the Interim Chairman of First Division North.
Information reaching this publication is that, the prices for the security companies involved were inflated.
Documents that this publication is in possession of, show that, G4S Botswana Limited Security were engaged by BFA at a total cost of P9 576 00 in contrast to the other company ( names withheld) whose quote stood at a staggering P53 250 00.
“Those quotations reached the BFA office, but the BFA officials were stunned by the figures they saw on the quotations and they since made their own quotations. I understand that G4S and Security Systems were not quoted initially despite being top security companies in the country. However, when BFA made contact, we discovered that their charges were far much better.
The BFA engaged a security company of their choice without consulting with the BFA security office. The matter is currently under investigation,” inside source close to the dealings revealed.
Contacted to offer clarity on the subject, the BFA 1st Vice President, Masego Nchingane was reluctant to shed any light into the matter as he said the issue is still under investigation. To get it from the horses’ mouth, in an interview with Ikgopoleng on this subject, he distanced himself from any wrong- doing and added that his duty is to manage security personnel during
BFA activities.
“I haven’t done anything wrong; previously BFA have been using other security companies I don’t know what changed but, for the Mares match, I was asked to collect quotations from several security companies for the game. I forwarded the quotations to the association and two days later I was told that the quotation prices were too high; I was not even aware of the figures in the documents, my task was to collect quotations and share them with the association. I don’t procure anything for BFA I just manage security personnel during the games,” he responded.
Ikgopoleng also expressed shock and disbelief that the subject is now under investigation as he has not been notified by anyone relating to the discussion.
This publication has also been reliably informed that there is another security company ( name withheld), based in Francistown, which is currently demanding payment after they were engaged to offer their services during one of the BFA’s activities and they are yet to be cleared a reported figure of over P60 000.
Close observers to the BFA have called for the association to have an operational plan relating to competitions to avoid situations where some people use the BFA events to make extra cash for themselves.
The BFA regime is currently out to clean operations within the association and recently, Southern Region Football Association ( SOFRA) were reportedly under investigation following alleged embezzlement of funds.
