Zebras invited to Turkey
Head coach of South Africa senior men national team ( Bafana Bafana), Hugo Broos might have created himself a few enemies in Botswana, following his rather condescending comments ahead of the upcoming FIFA international break.
Broos insinuated that Botswana senior national team are not a worthy opponent to play a friendly match against as there is nothing to learn from the lowly ranked Zebras with South Africa set to face World champions, France and Guinea.
“I’m told that in the past friendly games, South Africa always played against teams like Botswana, am sorry but with due respect to Botswana, you cannot learn anything against those sides,” Broos told local television station SABC.
Last year, Botswana Football Association ( BFA) turned down South Africa’s request to have a friendly encounter as there were no football activities in the country; South Africa’s Football Association ( SAFA), reportedly proposed to cover for all expenses for the trip.
In the wake of the Belgian born, Bafana Bafana coach’s comments, the local senior national side are reportedly working on logistics and travel to
Turkey in preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in July.
Close reports suggest that the BFA have submitted their budget proposal to Botswana National Sports Commission ( BNSC) and they await approval from the national sports governing body.
“Yes it is true, the plan to play in Turkey is in the pipeline, at the moment we are awaiting BNSC to respond any minute and we will know if we are going or not.
