Dwellers of Palapye and Mahalapye and surrounding areas can now enjoy dermatology and aesthetic medical services courtesy of Premium Medical Centre.

Dr Kelly Champane of Premium Medical Centre, who is also an aesthetic medicine practitioner tells that for the last couple of months, they focused on the dermatology side and reached out to Mahalapye and Palapye to bring aesthetic medical services closer to the residents. She is passionate about dermatology issues and thought that they should expand their services outside Gaborone to benefit a larger population. They do this within other private practices and she dubs this a trial for improving dermatology around.

“if it goes well, we plan to train more doctors around the country to be able to provide similar services for those who need them,” she says. She shares that they offer a variety of skin procedures including Anti- wrinkling injections and

facial fillers. These, she says have been in existence for more than 30 years and the two most common ones are botox and dysport, while botox is the most popular, “Antiwrinkling injections smoothens the wrinkles out on one’s face and relaxes the muscles and in that way the wrinkles would be under control for a period of time,” she explains.

She notes that they are commonly used for wrinkles on the forehead, the glabella frown, which is between the eyes, bunny lines on the nose and the ones on the side of the eyes known as crow’s feet. However, Dr Champane explains that the anti- wrinkle injections don’t last forever and so, on average patients have to do more sessions every six months because otherwise the muscles will contract again. “This is why it is important to go for sessions every four to six months on average to maintain that flawless wrinkle free skin, and completely relax the muscles for that period,” she explains.

She further tells BG Style that anti- wrinkle injections can also be used for other conditions including hyperhidrosis, which is actually excessive sweating. For this condition, they normally inject people on common places being under the axilla area and on the hands too.

She explains that this one lasts for about nine months before they can reinject again, and this she says really helps people not to sweat. “It relaxes the muscles completely such that, patients won’t experience any sweating or they can only experience minimal sweating.

Anti- wrinkling injections can also be used for TMJ pain conditions which is caused by people who grind a lot on their teeth, something that can cause a lot of pain. So they inject below the TMJ area just below the cheek, she says.

They have so far received positive feedback as people are interested in these anti- wrinkling injections and Dr Champane is proud of the successful cases from patients, that they often get, noting that these injections are now popular.

For facial fillers, they work by adding volume to the face once one has lost volume somewhere on their facial area.

Dr Champane emphasizes that this could be around cheeks, and most of the time some people develop volume loss due to aging, and so the solution becomes filling to have the cheek look lumpy and back to a normal state. Some people develop deep folds along the cheeks and facial fillers help reduce this. This also works perfectly for those people with a double chin.

“Bigger lines on the skin can also be treated through this process of Botox injections,” she shares. In most cases, people who wear glasses may have the glasses pressing down on their skin causing a permanent mark, but Premium Medical Centre is ready to correct this issue with their anti- wrinkling injections, through fillers. She says facial fillers last for the longest period of about one year, so anyone who does it doesn’t have to worry for a year or two.

Dr Champane boasts that she manages a lot of patients with acne and she is always happy with the positive results produced at the end.

She has introduced chemical peels, for the acne scars and explains that the process uses acid to remove scarring and dead tissues on the skin such that it eventually smoothens the face. They also use Micro needling, which helps with scarring and pigmentation as well. They have been using creams but have now introduced micro needling for even better results especially for those who suffer from bad acne, high pigmentation and melasma. Dr Champane adds that they also have a wide range of products aimed at meeting people’s skin solutions.

They have IV nutrient therapy as well, for immune booster, nutrient drip, weight loss, hangover drip and glow drip that gives the natural glassy look and radiant complexion. Weight loss suppresses appetite, increases metabolism and the hangover drip is normally recommended for the night lovers. “If one had alcohol the previous night, they can get the hangover drip the following morning for 30 minutes and dash to work feeling fresh,” she shares. Immune booster on the other hand is meant for improving and strengthening the immune system, as it has a high dose of vitamin c and zinc.

They offer all these services in Gaborone, Palapye and Mahalapye and she reiterates that it is their dream to spread across the country in the future.
