Magang’s Vision for BVF
Tsoseletso Magang has shown her commitment and love for local sport is not determined by her downfalls, following her loss in the Botswana Football Association ( BFA) elections last year as a Women Representative Candidate, she returned to the scenes to contest for the Botswana Volleyball Federation Presidency and was successfully elected and will be waiting confirmation from the congress this weekend.
With Daniel Molaodi having successfully led the BVF for over 10 years, Magang will be critical for the federation as it enters a new dawn where the hunt for sponsors will determine the fate of the sport
This week she revealed her ambitions for the volleyball federation which according to her is long term.
“We need to give the federation a strategic direction, I wish that we can establish a culture of excellence. For us to deliver we should be passionate and excel at what we do,” she said in a phone interview.
She added that capacitating people who are at the helm of the association will be very pivotal and there is a need to deliberately develop leaders in sport.
The BVF has been in a ghost mode for several years now, Magang however views that as a good way to start on a clean slate.
“There is always a silver lining in dark clouds, starting something that was once great is a challenge we can take, to bring back the shine in the product so we have to bring new strategies.”
Moreover the former Volleyball player says she wants to position the federation in a way that whoever takes over from her will not have to start on a clean slate but rather take the federation to new heights.
“We should attract new partners, we are starting from scratch to enhance relationships with stakeholders and financial partners.”
Nonetheless she said their success should be measured directly by the success of the clubs which will be independent and give them leeway in developing their programs.
She called for the empowerment and developing women in the sport and solidifying their foundation of grassroots development. “We have a challenge to erect an interim women’s commission, the BNSC has been motivating enough and we need to include this in the constitution.
Another area of focus will be to intentionally motivate athletes to establish themselves on and off the field of play to be prepared to adapt to other things when they retire from the sport.
Magang comes across as someone who likes the challenge, she has served as the BVF President for two years and BNSC Vice Chairperson.
During her tenure as BVF President, she was able to secure sponsorships from Mascom, Capital BMW and JB Sports but the current committee was not able to keep them.
The volleyball community is waiting with abated breath to see the influence of Magang and how she will manage to bring back the glory days and revive local volleyball now and beyond.
