BSSA reviews development strategy
Botswana Swimming Sport Association ( BSSA) Executive Members recently convened to begin engagements of their strategy review to further enhance their development agenda.
BSSA officials are set to further engage with their affiliates in the second phase of consultation in the coming weeks.
The BSSA, upon adopting the current strategy, agreed that a review of its strategy every four years, or whenever the BNSC reviews theirs is imperative to keep up with the demands needed to be successful in sport.
An evaluation of its progress on the implementation of the strategy on an annual basis was also highlighted as a key component to achieve the association’s’ goals.
“The strategy we are reviewing is of 2014- 2028, so we are basically making amendments to it to further enhance our development agenda. At the moment, I can’t reveal any details because we are still to engage with other stakeholders. When everything is done we will make an announcement,” BSSA Public Relations Officer, Rosie Seleka said.
In 2012, at the end of their 16 year strategy, the Botswana Na
tional Sports Council ( BNSC) embarked on a strategy review exercise to develop a comprehensive 16 year strategy that will guide them on the delivery of their mandate.
The strategy was to be reviewed on a 4 year phases coinciding with the Olympic cycles; 2013- 2016, 2017- 2020, 20212024 and 2024- 2028.
It was found imperative for affiliates to align their strategies to that of the BNSC – Vision 2028.
Those without strategies at that point were expected to develop same immediately, having them aligned to the Vision 2028.
In compliance, the Botswana Swimming Sports Association ( BSSA) developed their strategy development, a document which provided a summary of the BSSA strategy for the period 2014 – 2028, aligned to the BNSC strategy.
Whilst key points to be added to the existing strategy remain sketchy, the association in their 2014- 2028 strategy, aimed to amass the support of institutional sports bodies such as BOBSA, BOPSSA, BISA and BOTESSA in its quest to introduce aquatic sports in public schools and other educational institutions.
The BSSA also embarked on an exercise to establish a well maintained database and also advocate for, and be a part of a national database on sports development.
