- BG REPORTER

Television and Film legend, Connie Ferguson will be in Gaborone this weekend. She will be here on a number of speaking and engagement efforts with stakeholders in the business and showbiz industries. Ferguson has never shied away from coming to talk and impart knowledge with the locals. And this coming weekend, many are eager to hear and absorb as much knowledge as they can.

Even more thrilling is the fact that there is an opportunity for some to get a mentorship/ internship at Ferguson Films, where they will learn the ropes about the ever changing Television and Film industry. The Saturday event will be held at the Phakalane Golf Estate, where she will speak on the Business of Arts & Culture as a driver for economic growth, among other issues. The Saturday event is part of her Southern African tour. She recently held an almost similar engagement in Zimbabwe and Zambia.

According to the event organiser, Thapelo Monageng, Ferguson will be in Gaborone to meet and engage with players in the above mentioned fields as part of a drive to explore opportunities and development through show business.

“We are looking forward to hosting Connie Ferguson and also host a meet and greet session with her fans in Botswana as a celebrated actress

and businesswoman.

The event is meant to also inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and find ways to promote arts and culture,” she said.

She also notes that Ferguson, who was married to the late, Shona Ferguson made her mark on the small screen as Karabo Moroka on the long- running South African soapie, Generations and ascended up the ladder in showbiz and business, with a thriving business empire. Her company, Ferguson Films, which she co- founded with her husband is behind The Queen telenovela, which airs on Msanzi Magic ( DStv) where she plays the role of Harriet Khoza, Igazi ( which aired on Mzansi Magic), Rockville and The Throne to mention a few. Besides her television and film industry, she is also a brand ambassador and has endorsed various brands as well as running her fitness and lifestyle brand called IConniecFit, among various other ventures.

Monageng further says that the arts and entertainment sector in Botswana is a key sector which can contribute to the economy when harnessed and promoted properly. The sector has seen significant growth over the years and Ferguson’s visit is a further endorsement of the viability of showbiz in the country and beyond, she said.

Tickets are available for sale going at P1000 which include lunch and a day filled with loads of activities.
