Pontsho Moloi’s footballing journey had already experienced so much success as a player before now, when he is relishing his coaching moments as an assistant to Innocent Morapedi.

Having led the team as Interim Head Coach last season and lent his experience to the MoneyMachine players in their Orange FA Cup triumph, Piro is once again lifting a championship trophy, following his club’s winning of the Botswana football League. News reaching this publication is that Moloi is set to leave in the coming days for Zambia, where he will be on a course to achieve his CAF B license coaching badges, an upgrade from his CAF C license which he has held since 2016.

“I’m very excited to have pulled it off together with the director, Nicolas Zakhem and the people who helped me to get the opportunity to do my B License and I can’t wait to get started,” Moloi exclusively told this publication.

Gaborone United club director and business mogul, Nicolas Zakhem shared that Moloi is a talented coach who deserves an opportunity to prove his mettle at the highest level. He added that Moloi’s qualification advancement will add value to the club and the local football community.

“I’ve said before on various platforms, that I’m committed to empowering our young, ambitious and talented coaches. We have hundreds of them who are hungry for success and have the ability if opportunity is given to them. Coach Moloi is talented as a coach and has impeccable record as a player. I want him to obtain the required qualifications to enhance his knowledge and career, something which he loves and enjoy. His further studies and knowledge will definitely add value to GU and to Botswana football as a whole. One day and soon he will leave his mark in the region. Definitely, we can’t guarantee his stay with GU forever, however we shall benefit from his new acquired knowledge,” Zakhem said. Moloi, following their league triumph, is cognizant of the fact that the coming season will be far more challenging than the one that has just ended and therefore, a need to empower himself was imperative. Gaborone United have won both the league and the Orange FA cup and are on course to defend the FA cup as they are currently in the semi- finals of the tournament; this means they will represent Botswana in the CAF club competitions. “It is so special, it has been a very long season, we have maintained the top spot since day one and now we are champions so it is very special. We had to deliver, the welfare of everyone at the club was well taken care of and we assembled a good squad,” Moloi said. “Going to the top is always difficult but staying there is even more difficult. The following season will be more difficult and we are expecting a difficult challenge. We also have the CAF champions’ league added on the schedule and we will need everyone to be at their best. With the support of the director and the management, I believe we will once again be able to compete. We will take it head- on and we are excited,” former Centre Chiefs captain added.

Moloi has already led big teams in the country, having led Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Extension Gunners, and he has described the experience of coaching the two teams as “learning inside an examination room.”
