CHEPS DREAMS BIG IN FOOD INDUSTRY

- IRENE SHONE BG CORRESPONDENT

Cheps Catering Srvices, riun by Keotshephile Chepete and based in Tlokweng, is ready to take the eatery industry by storm through her modern ideas in the world of cooking and catering, as well as setting up a dignified restaurant.

To her, the industry of food is all about hygiene, great taste, perfect presentation and good packaging as well as branding. Chepete operates under Cheps Catering Services brand, and she tells BG Style that they are aimed at offering the best scrumptious meals at an affordable price, as well as promoting good food culture through their food tutorials to individuals and restaurants. She says that she has come to realize that cooking lessons are in popular demand as people enjoy good food, and have now been motivated by social media to prepare a variety of tasty food. ” We are a one stop food service provider on a mobile mode, to serve all catering services for all functions as well as the much demanded cooking classes,” she says. She is of the view that, ‘ the energy and emotion that one brings into the kitchen would be reflected in their food’.

Cooking has always been her hobby while growing up, and this has motivated her to think outside the box and share her cooking skills with the entire society. In her books, it is good enough to go to school and become a proper and decent chef, but then again, it depends on the feedback that the cook gets from their clientele. “I started cooking professionally in 2019 because all along I have been deterred by lack of resources and capital. However, I managed to pull through using my school allowance by then and everything turned out well as I started realizing my dream,” she says. She tells BG Style that the journey was never easy as she had to stand out in the field and be perfect with her work. She therefore utilized You Tube, to ensure that she adds greater taste to her food.

She further reiterates that, cooking is an art which comes from the heart, and getting other lessons from You Tube has helped her advance her cooking skills. She prides herself in instilling lifetime skills to people while they better their lifestyle in the kitchen. Her cooking lessons include; platter making, sauces, pizzas, Cooking Starch differently, salads, burgers and food presentation. She has already been to many places surrounding Gaborone and as far as Selibe Phikwe, Mmadinare, Palapye Francistown, to offer her cooking lessons. Chepete says internationally, she looks up to renowned international Chefs including, Zanele Ka Mvelase

Kitchen and Nogueira’s Home Cooking. “These two ladies are my inspiration. Their level of cooking is just out of this world, as they are passion driven souls and their food presentations can never be ignored. I just want to be where they are one day,” she says.

For now, she operates mostly on orders, but plans to serve 24/ 7 as she grows into the industry and responding to the demand. “One of my biggest future plans is to have a beautiful restaurant and have mobile kitchens around the city, and thereby create job opportunities for other people,” she says.
