Pig barbecue festival on the cards

-

In recent years, Batswana have experienced plenty of Meat festivals. Most of the festivals have predominantly focused on different kinds of meat such as beef, and wildlife. But they are yet to experience, pork on a large scale.

On May 28th, Jarateng in Mogoditshane will be hosting a one of a kind Pigs on Fire barbecue festival. Guests will be treated to bottomless pork from noon until 1800hrs. Organisers are calling on guests and meat lovers to work on their appetites and come prepared to indulge in meat as much as they want. In short, it will be an all that you can eat event.

According to event organiser, Kaelo Sabone, they will serve pork prepared in different ways such as spit braai, American barbecue and potjies. He also says that this event is the first of its kind, and that they want to showcase pork and different ways to enjoy it. “We have never had an event that is dedicated to pork,” he says. He also says that for sides, guests can pair their meat dishes with side dishes that include pap, chips and can also have burgers made with pulled pork, as well as a Pozole, which is a Mexican dish. “Pork has never been showcased and enjoyed on this big scale,” he explains. He also notes that they also wish to appreciate pig farmers, as well as showcase and promote Barbecues, which are very big in other parts of the world. The whole idea, says Sabone, is to spark interest in barbecues amongst Batswana. So far, they are anticipating to use eight pigs for the event. And will be cooking different cuts of pork.

He further notes that the more people get exposed to pork, the more they can have a better understanding and appreciation for the meat.

“Our target market is everyone who loves meat,” says Sabone. For the event, they have partnered with sponsors that include Senn Foods, Weber, Big George Custom Smokers, Blinds Vision, Boro wines, Majimetsi and Blaza app. Tickets are on sale for P250.
