Beach volleyball tourney postponed

- BG correspondent

The Botswana Volleyball Federation ( BVF) postponed the third leg Beach Volleyball tourney which was expected to go down this weekend.

In a press statement released by the local federation earlier this week, the Zone VI administration has allowed the host country to be in a better position to host participants expected to come into the country for the event. “Over 40 teams have registered to participate and this has necessitated the need to even increase the number of playing venues from the originally planned 2 courts to three or more as the Botswana leg has attracted more numbers than those that hosted the 1st and 2nd Leg”, the statement reads. Meanwhile, the federation awaits for communication from the Zone VI administration for the next date, which is expected to be in June. “In the meantime, the BVF Executive Committee continues to prepare for the extravaganza by increasing the playing courts and courting even more sponsors for the event to avoid unnecessary postponement.” The BVF will host Southern African countries in Gaborone for the ongoing Zone VI Beach Volleyball Tour. The countries were expected to arrive on Thursday 26 May 2022 and go back home on Monday 30 May 2022. The Beach Tour began with the 1st Leg in Maputo, Mozambique from March 4 to March 6, 2022. The 2nd Leg was played in Johannesburg, South Africa from April 1 to April 3, 2022 and the 3rd Leg is set for Gaborone in Botswana this month before the postponement was announced.

Other legs will be hosted in other countries such as Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, Lesotho and Zambia; these are the counties that have been showing up at the games. In both the 1st and 2nd legs, Botswana men attained Bronze medals.
