Zebras begin Afcon journey

The men’s Senior National football team, the Zebras are expected to face Libya in the 2023 Total Energies Afcon Group J Campaign on the 1st June 2022 in Libya, the local team will be looking for a spot in the 2023 tournament.

Head Coach, Mogomotsi Mpote has been hard at work with his team having reported for their training camp on the 24th May 2022 ahead of the crucial fixtures in the next coming days. The Zebras will return home to play their second match five days later at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistow­n, where they will be expected to gain confidence through the legion of fans that always throng the stadium in Ghetto. Moreover, Mpote has called up a very strong squad mixing experience with youth, team captain Thatayaone Ditlhokwe returns to the team following his injury, and the commanding Supersport United player will want to inspire his side to a good start in the qualifiers. Tawana Mbakile of Security Systems joins Alfred Velaphi and Thato Kebue from Gaborone United in defense. In midfield, Lebogang Ditsele of Gaborone United, Mothusi Cooper of Moulouda Club, Gofaone Mabaya from Orapa United and Gape Mohutsiwa of Jwaneng Galaxy are the most notable names. Morocco based duo, Kabelo Seakanyeng and Tumisang Orebonye join the team in attack alongside local League top goal scorer, Thabang Sesinyi and his compatriot Thatayaone Kgamanyane. The Zebras will play a practice match against Cosafa neighbors, Eswatini on the 27th of May before heading for the first game on the 29th May 2022. The Botswana Football Associatio­n ( BFA) this week released a statement on the sale of tickets for the home game between the Zebras and Tunisia, which started selling from the 25th May 2022. “Tickets will be available at spar outlets and webticket stores across the country,” the statement reads. “Grandstand tickets selling at P30 each while the remaining stands are selling at P20.00 each. Supporters are encouraged to buy tickets early and in numbers to come support the Zebras.”
