BDC advances digital transformation
As the world economies continue to open up and attain a sense of normalcy, Botswana Development Corporation ( BDC) has seen itself as one of the key participants at this year’s Business Botswana Northern Trade Fair, slated for 25- 29 May 2022. The fair, whose main aim is to be the biggest trade show this year and is hosted under the theme “Accelerating the rise of a digital economy,” has created a platform through which the Corporation can achieve strategic goals for the business community.
“The digital mandate is not a new phenomenon; it has rather simply been brought into sharp focus. Prior to the covid- 19 pandemic, a paradigm shift towards digitisation of the economy was already underway, although in some instances, still in infancy stages. Current events have accelerated the paradigm, as evidenced by the marked shift in spending towards digital businesses,” Boitshwarelo Lebang- Kgetse, BDC Head- Corporate Affairs & Strategy, commenting on the alignment of the fair’s theme to today’s operating environment. As the main investment arm of the Government, the Corporation is more than ready to invest in and create strategic partnerships that will not only advance the digital transformation of the Botswana economy but also harness digital technologies for greater resilience and efficiency.
BDC’s participation at the fair reiterates its commitment to building & enhancing stakeholder relations with the business community, revitalising the northern business environment, and growing & transforming Botswana businesses in general. Through this initiative, the Corporation hopes to engage in meaningful conversations that will stimulate economic diversification efforts in a bid to achieve its strategic objectives and the country’s Vision 2036 aspirations to become a High- income economy.
As a key stakeholder at the fair, BDC has provided a Business Lounge that will allow members of the business community to interact with each other and potential clients. The Lounge also offers a conducive and hospitable environment, complete with complimentary refreshments. Governments and businesses are facing a world that has been radically changed, and recovery will probably be marked by significant instability and change. This however presents an opportunity to recoup economic growth and social progress. A key take- away point is that with BDC in the lead, it is possible to create an economy that is stronger, more resilient and equitable. Progressive partnerships with Botswana businesses are expected to propel this vision by providing jobs, competitive advantage and economic growth while creating an economy that simultaneously drives growth and leads to more inclusiveness for the benefit of all.
