IS D- I- SOMETHING REASON POPULATION DIDN’T GROW?

-

Results of the 2022 population and housing census show that to all intents and purposes, Botswana’s population hasn’t grown the way a country’s population is supposed to. The latter has excited a slew of theories, some naughty. When it was revealed that more than three ( 3) million condoms are consumed on a monthly basis, some put two and two together but their theory could be wrong. Not all those condoms are actually used because anything can happen after a night- time stop at a quick shop: cellphones can be switched off, doors can remain locked, high- level talks in the bedroom can fail and in highly unusual cases, some condoms may not fit. Some of those condoms are bought by people passing through Botswana and others may lie unused for months on end. Interestingly, there is a theory that hasn’t been considered but possibly explains why Botswana’s population is not growing. During a live TV debate on Btv years ago, Dr. Kesitegile Gobotswang, accused security organs of being engaged in largescale extermination of Batswana: “… matsholo a itshireletso a tsweletse ka go ganyaola batho.” The word “ganyaola” is usually used when describing genocide. It is possible that Botswana’s population is not growing because, as Gobotswang said, security organs have killed a lot of Batswana. However, there remains the question of which organ did that because Botswana has always had security organs and at least until the time Gobotswang made that accusation, had never been known to engage in large- scale extermination of Batswana. That means that either a new security organ had come into being or one that already existed had transformed itself into a hit squad. So, while Gobotswang never identified the security organ he was talking about, one can make an educated guess. By the way, the debate in question was in 2009. Hopefully the latter detail will help you identify the security organ that is responsible for the stagnancy in Botswana’s population growth.
