As we close the year, we take a pause and reflect on the contribution we have made to the growth of the sports and exercise medicine field.
Besides the contribution the column has made locally in guiding our readers on key concepts in the sports and exercise medicine field, we take pride in the 2 significant publications made this year which contributed to the international scene.
In that account, the column has international representation in its publications.

The article highlights the lapses in management of one of the most common injuries involving one of the quadriceps muscles being the Rectus Femoris ( RF). It outlines that the majority occur when kicking ( e. g. soccer, rugby, karate etc). It may be in isolation or involve other structures. No high level studies had been done on the topic and it outlined these lapses including treatment recommendations ( either surgical or non- surgical management).
We conclude that: With low certainty of evidence, RF injury occurs mostly from kicking, resulting in a tear or avulsion at the free tendon and anterior inferioriliac spine regions with or without a labral tear. With low certainty, findings suggest that successful conservative treatment provides a shortened RTS.
Surgical treatment remains an option for failed conservative treatment of RF injuries across all subgroups. High- level studies are recommended to improve the evidence base for the treatment of this significant injury.

The evidence- based recommendations suggests that cardiac screening does not eliminate all risk of cardiac- associated adverse events in physical activity. However, the detectable cases from cardiac screening are important to promote an environment conducive to the safe participation of the athlete.

In these 2 submissions, we present our valuable contributions to the field, a great achievement, both personally and for the column. We hope for a great year next year filled with more publications. To the festive season, be safe, be well, until next year.
