A LAWYER MANQUÉ CALLED VEE

-

The year ended and begins with a raging controversy between two artists, one ( Vee) very well established and the other ( Oska Bora Teachere) just trying to get a foothold in the industry. The source of the conflict is a sevenseater fong- kong car that the latter won in a competition that the former ran. The car, as the antics of both artists, has generated enough drama to generate its own multi- episode soapie. Firstly, the car took long to be handed over and when it finally was, the recipient, a highly accomplished whiner, whined about the car’s condition. The first pictures of the car that were published online showed that it had a hideous gaping wound in the left front fender. While Vee took the car back and had the wound stitched up, the scar still makes it look unsightly. The problem didn’t stop there because as you read this, Oska Bora Teachere would have posted a new complaint about the car on his Facebook page. The plot twist came courtesy of Vee’s explanation: that he never said he would give the winner a brand new car. That is a solid legal argument and if the matter was to go to court, Vee would win. How do we know? Because years ago, the government knew better than to sue Chinese construction companies that put up shoddy buildings with sub- standard building materials. The contract merely stated that Company X would build a school and the government would pay it a certain amount of money and there was nothing about the quality of building materials that would be used. Company X would then exploit this loophole by using made- in- China- for- Third- World- countries building materials. A couple of months after completion, the building would start collapsing and the government found itself helpless because the project didn’t have a quality management plan. Is it possible that Vee worked for a Chinese company before turning to music?
