JONATHAN BUTLER BACK IN TOWNIN TOWN

Six years after hosting and bringing internatio­nally acclaimed Jonathan Butler, aged 61 years, to Gaborone for the annual ( GIMC) extravagan­za, Leap Frog is at it again.

The company, a beast when it comes to curating niche events is slated to once again host the singer, songwriter, and guitarist at the one- of- a kind show pencilled to take place on Saturday, March 4th. The venue for this event, that promises to tantalise the tastebuds of jazz lovers, will be announced in due course. Butler will be joined by another great artists in Sereetsi & the Natives. The March event will be one of those events where the real Jazz lovers, can look forward to a show that truly caters to them in a proper setting/ venue and amongst fellow jazz lovers. It has been a while since Gaborone had one of those shows, and it promises to take them back in time.

Speaking in an interview, Event organiser, Fish Pabalinga explains that the American Based singer/ artist is making his come back to perform in Botswana, having headlined GIMC Jazz in 2016. Pabalinga explains that, Butler is a renowned guitarist born in Cape Town, but now based in Los Angeles. He further says that he has performed all over the world, at some of the greatest theatres and venues. “The fact that he has chosen to perform in Botswana is testimony to how much he enjoys the country,” he explains.

He also explains that it was only right that they pair Butler with Sereetsi & the Natives who have been garnering massive support from the region. Sereetsi & the Natives recently released their latest single titled Petere, which has continued on the same wave length as their previous hits.

Sharing a bit of informatio­n about Leapfrog, he points out that the company is a well- known Event Management Agency that also owns and runs the annual

Gaborone Internatio­nal Music and Culture Week ( GIMC). When asked about the show, Pabalinga said what they try to do is to bring to the creative arts and live performanc­e, annual quality events that a capital city like Gaborone deserves. “We believe in variety and not always follow the same pattern of what everybody does and as best as we can, we strive to host some of the best artists in the world right in our own country,” he explains. Tickets go on sale and will be available from Webtickets at P 300 ordinary and P 1500 VIP. Butler has been in the music industry for decades. He has several compilatio­n albums under his belt, and this includes Best of Jonathan Butler, Ultimate Butler, Christmas Goes Gospel, Divine Voices, as well as collaborat­ions that include Dave Grusin Presents West Side story. On top of these, he has recorded some classic singles that include Please Stay, I love how you love me, Holding on, Take Good care of me, Can we start all over, and welcome home to mention a few.
