Debswana sponsors women mining expo
Debswana Diamond Company has sponsored with P110 000 the Women in Mining Pitso 2023 aimed at encouraging the active participation of women in the mining industry. The Pitso is organised by Ministry of Minerals and Energy in collaboration with Women in Mining Botswana Association ( WIMBA). It will be held in Palapye from the 26th to the 27th of January 2023 under the theme “Empowerment of women in mining towards sustainable development”.
Debswana will also share insights on its gender inclusion initiatives and Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme ( CEEP) as well as contribute through a panel discussion on the topic of Sector Enablers. A delegation of women from across our business will represent the company. At Debswana we are committed to supporting and sponsoring the agenda on advocacy for women in the work place and the mining business ecosystem including its adjacent industries such as manufacturing. Debswana Transformation and Innovation Strategy dubbed One Dream One Team 2024 through the Diversity and Inclusion as well as Social Performance Strategies places matters of attracting, developing and retaining diverse talent as critical to advancing improved quality of life, achieve agility on the workplace as paramount to business success. It is on the backdrop of this view that Debswana participates in the inaugural Women in Mining Pitso.
The event provides a platform for women in mining and critical stakeholders to engage, deliberate and make recommendations for improvement on issues of policy reforms & regulation, economic empowerment, injustices in the workplace and health.
