Darts gears up for AGM
Preparations for the AGM are at an advanced stage for the Botswana Darts Association ( BDA) as the association looks to lure sponsors and grow the sport nation wide.
The association has been operating with a shoe string budget over the years and the issue will be among those important issues on the agenda. The AGM will be hosted virtually on February 18.
“Constitutionally, we are well prepared, teams have been invited and official letters have been sent to teams and even to BNSC, so we are good to go,” BDA spokesperson, Thato Maphorisa said in an interview this week.
On the ground, in terms of reports and other logistics, the association is doing the finishing touches. “Due to lack of funds to hold a physical AGM, we have decided to hold it virtually something we have realized gives us a 100% attendance at a lower costs.” Maphorisa said despite their financial challenges, they have made partnerships with some companies that are willing to continue partnering with them.“We are also spending sleepless nights trying to build even more partnerships to help us finance our activities especially that this year the youth teams will be competing in Region V. So unlike the senior teams they do not have resources to help the organization to take them to the championship.”
He added that these financial issues are going to be the most important on their agenda. “We can only hope for the best especially that the youth teams are going to compete at Region V this year, we are hoping that they increase our grant. “We have many challenges including recent initiatives to source capital to fund our activities,” he stressed. One other item in the AGM agenda is how they plan on preparing for the upcoming Region V youth championship which will be held in Zimbabwe in August this year.
